Professor Richard O'Kennedy is an author and academic specializing in the production, characterisation and application of polyclonal, monoclonal and recombinant antibodies to different haptens and disease markers. Formerly at Dublin City University, [1] where he directed the Biomedical Diagnostics Institute, [2] he is vice president for research at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, a member of Qatar Foundation, [3] as well as being the Science Patron (and former President) of the London International Youth Science Forum. [4]

He has been a member of the Royal Irish Academy since 2014. [5] [2]

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Hamad bin Abdullah bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani is a member of the ruling Al Thani Qatari royal family. The Al Khalifas profess Sunni Islam and belong to the Anizah tribe, some members of this tribe joined the Utub alliance which migrated from Central Arabia to Kuwait, then ruled all of Qatar, more specifically Al Zubarah, which they built and ruled over before settling in Bahrain in the early 17th century. The current head of the family is Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, who became the Emir of Bahrain in 1999 and proclaimed himself King of Bahrain in 2002, in fact becoming a constitutional monarch.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Abdullah bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani was the Emir of Qatar from 27 February 1972 until he was deposed by his son Hamad bin Khalifa on 27 June 1995. He died during the reign of his grandson, the current Emir, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Jassim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani is the former heir apparent of Qatar. He is the third son of the former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and the first child of the Emir with his second wife, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al-Missned. He abdicated his position as Crown Prince in 2003, in favour of his younger brother Tamim, citing being uninterested in becoming Emir.

The 1995 Qatari coup d'état was a bloodless palace coup that took place in Qatar on 27 June 1995. The coup was carried out by then Crown Prince Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani who, with the support of the ruling Al Thani family, took control of the country while his father, Emir Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, was on a visit to Geneva, Switzerland. The coup came after a falling out between Hamad bin Khalifa and his father who, in early 1995, had tried regaining some of the authority he bestowed upon Hamad since 1992.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani is a Qatar football administrator, coach, member in the Fifa council and AFC Professional Football. He is elected president of the Arabian Gulf Football Association, and president of the Qatar Football Association since 2015, prior to being president he was the vice president of the Qatar Football Association.

Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani is a Qatari royal and the first wife and consort of Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar. A member of the Qatari royal family by birth, she is the daughter of former government minister Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani and a grandniece of Emir Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. She is a second cousin of her husband. As the first wife of the Emir, she accompanied him on an official state visit to Spain in 2022, where she was presented with the Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic by King Felipe.
