Richard Scheufler (born 1 November 1964) is a Czech multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, music arranger, teacher, and producer. His music spans a mixture of various styles including funk, pop, rock, modern jazz, hardcore, and their fusion with classical music.
Scheufler showed talent for music already in his early childhood. He was barely three years old when he started to play the harmonica, and he gradually learned to play piano and percussion. [1] [2] He pursued his musical ambitions by performing in a children's orchestra under the guidance of his uncle. After the breakup of the orchestra, the thirteen-year-old Scheufler switched to the bass guitar, which he plays to this day. He initially studied music on his own and later took private lessons between 1987 and 1989. From 1998 until 1999, he continued his musical education at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory in Prague, where he also took singing lessons.
After performing with regional bands, in 1986, Scheufler obtained his first professional engagement in the band Natural, with whom he played for approximately four years. After that, he performed in the band Buran Prášil and in 1990, he joined Dalibor Janda's band. An encounter with musician and composer Milan Steigerwald meant another important move in Scheufler's professional career—for the following twelve years, he was a member of the band King Size. At the same time, he appeared as a guest musician on recordings by several pop artists, such as Karel Gott, Lucie Bílá, and Lenka Filipová. In 2002, he participated in the recording of the Damiens album Nechci zůstat sám and won a Golden Disc certification it. Scheufler has also contributed to various jazz projects, such as the band Blue Birds, which consists of saxophonists Ivan Myslikovjan and Andrea Kolmanová.
In 2007, when Michael Kocáb reformed the band Pražský výběr under the name Pražský výběr II, Scheufler was brought in to play bass. He remained with the project until 2009, helping them release the 2007 album Vymlácený rockový palice. [3]
Between 2011 and 2015, he assumed the position of bass player in the metal band Krucipüsk.
Scheufler's son, Richard Scheufler Jr., is a drummer, [4] and has collaborated with his father on several projects, [5] including occasional stints with the band King Size and contributing to the Damiens album Nechci zůstat sám when he was only twelve years old. He also took part in a tour for Lenka Filipová and played on his father's second solo album, Between us (2008). Since 2004, they both have been performing as permanent guest artists in the rock opera Antigona.

At the end of 2002 Scheufler moved to Hastings, England. He worked at the music studio of Claire Hamill and performed with local artists as well as on his own. While there, Scheufler began a collaboration with Ghanaian percussionist Nana Tsiboe, contributing to his project Bushfaya.
Richard Scheufler's debut album, titled V rukou tvých, was released in 2001 in two versions, Czech and English. Scheufler not only sings and plays on the album, but also composed, arranged, and produced the record. His second solo album, Between Us, was produced between 2004 and 2008 and released under the label Scheufler's Records in 2008. [6] The album includes vocal and instrumental compositions, with contributions from various artists, including Scheufler's son Richard Jr. [7]
Apart from his performing work, Scheufler has also conducted bass lessons and in 1994, he published the teaching video Slap & Funky. [8] From 1997 until 2002, he was engaged as a lecturer at music-oriented summer camps for students.
Ondřej Soukup is a Czech musician and composer. He has written soundtracks for over twenty feature films, including Jan Svěrák's Kolya, an Academy Award-winner for best foreign film in 1997, and Dark Blue World, for which Soukup received his second Czech Lion award for best soundtrack, in 2001. He was also a jury member for the talent show Česko hledá SuperStar.
The Czech Republic debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with the song "Malá dáma" written by Milan Špalek, Ota Váňa, Josef Vojtek, Radek Hurčík and Tomáš Krulich. The song was performed by the band Kabát. The Czech broadcaster Česká televize (ČT) organised the national final Eurosong 2007 in order to select the Czech entry for the 2007 contest in Helsinki, Finland. Nine entries competed in the national final which took place on 10 March 2007 and "Malá dáma" performed by Kabát was selected as the winner entirely by a public vote.
Michael Kocáb is a Czech composer, singer, and political activist. He is the leader of Pražský výběr, a popular music band suppressed by the Czechoslovak communist regime in the 1980s.
Michal Pavlíček is a Czech guitarist, musical composer, singer, lyricist, and producer. He is considered to be an accomplished guitarist and holds numerous awards.
Flamengo was a Czech rock band established in 1966, which, at the peak of its popularity consisted of Vladimír Mišík, Ivan Khunt, Pavel Fořt, Jan Kubík, Vladimír "Guma" Kulhánek, and Jaroslav Erno Šedivý. They only released one studio album, Kuře v hodinkách, which, though banned by the authorities, went on to achieve great success in later years. Flamengo reunited for an anniversary concert in 2012 and were later inducted into the Beatová síň slávy.
Natálie Kocábová, also known as Natalie Kocab is a Czech poet, writer, and musician. She is the daughter of singer and political activist Michael Kocáb. She has released three solo studio albums, one extended play, four music videos, and featured on a number of other projects.
Eva Turnová is a Czech singer, songwriter, bass guitarist, teacher, translator and actress. Since 2001 she was a member of The Plastic People of the Universe. She left the band in 2015. Between 1995 and 2001 she was a member of DG 307. Her first husband was Czech actor David Matásek. In 2008, she released her first solo album called Eturnity.
Vladimír Padrůněk was a Czech jazz and rock bass guitarist. He is known for his work with the groups Jazz Q, Energit, Etc..., Abraxas, and others.
Etc... is a Czech rock band from Prague, formed in 1974 by singer and guitarist Vladimír Mišík. Various musicians have rotated through the group's ranks, including violist Jan Hrubý, bassist Jiří Veselý, guitarist Petr "Kulich" Pokorný, drummer Ivan Kadaňka, bassist/cellist Jaroslav Olin Nejezchleba, as well as bassists Vladimír Padrůněk and Vladimír Guma Kulhánek.
Jiří Korn is a Czech recording artist and actor. Korn is a highly acclaimed musician in his native Czechoslovakia, and remains after his five decade long career one of the most prominent Czech singer-songwriters, but is internationally perhaps best known for his single Miss Moskva, which received radio play in most European countries, including France, Germany, Croatia, Hungary and Norway.
Lake Malawi is an English-language Czech indie pop band from Třinec, formed in 2013. It currently consists of lead vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist Albert Černý, and bassist and keyboardist Jeroným Šubrt. The band was formed by Černý following the breakup of his former group, Charlie Straight. Their debut EP, We Are Making Love Again, was released in 2015 and followed by the album Surrounded by Light in 2017. They represented the Czech Republic in the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Friend of a Friend", finishing in eleventh place. In 2022, they released their second album, The Great Video Game Crush.
Pražský výběr is Czech rock band formed in 1976 in Prague by keyboardist and singer Michael Kocáb. The band initially played jazz fusion in the 1970s, which was popular at the time. At the beginning of the 1980s, they changed their style and became one of the most influential new wave bands in Czechoslovakia. Between the years 1983 and 1986, they were banned by the Communist regime, and it wasn't until the second half of the decade that they returned to performing and releasing new material. They disbanded in 2006 due to disagreements between the two band leaders, Kocáb and Michal Pavlíček. Kocáb started a new band, called Pražský výběr II, which performed until 2009. In 2012, the original Pražský výběr reunited. The band has released four studio albums since their inception in 1976. Žízeň (1978), Výběr (1987), Pražský výběr, and Běr (1997).

Wanastowi Vjecy is a Czech rock band formed in 1988 in Prague. The group consists of Robert Kodym on vocals and guitar, Štěpán Smetáček on drums, Tomáš Vartecký on guitar, and Radek Havlíček on bass. They began as a punk band but settled into a mainstream rock sound by the early 1990s. Kodym and former member P.B.CH. were also in the band Lucie, led by David Koller, which they had formed together in 1985. The duo formed the core of Wanastowi Vjecy until 2010, when P.B.CH. left.
Martin Chodúr is a Czech singer, composer, lyricist, and multi-instrumentalist. He is a winner of the first Česko Slovenská SuperStar singing competition, in 2009. He has also won a Český slavík award, several Music Web poll awards, and a TýTý Award, among others.
Törr is a Czech metal band founded in Prague in 1977. They are considered one of the first Czech black metal bands. To date, they have released ten studio albums, two live albums, and two compilations.
Yo Yo Band is a Czech band from Prague formed in 1975 by Richard Tesařík, Vladimír Tesařík, Ondřej Hejma, and Julius Novotný Kuzma. The group achieved the peak of its success in the 1990s, with such hits as "Karviná", "Jedem do Afriky", "Rybitví", and "Kladno".
