Richmond Aryeetey is a Ghanaian academic. He is a professor of Public Health Nutrition at the University of Ghana and Dean of the School of Public Health, within the Department of Population, Family, and Reproductive Health, where he also serves as the head of department. [1] [2] [3] [4]
Aryeetey is a fellow of the African Nutrition Leadership Programme, the Yale University Global Health Leadership Institute, and the Brown University International Advanced Research Institute. [5] He is a visiting professor at the University of Sheffield’s Centre for Health and Related Research and was elected as a fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2022. [6] [7]
Richmond Aryeetey completed his secondary education at the Accra Academy and graduated from the University of Ghana with a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Food Science in 1999. He then earned a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Ghana in 2003, followed by a Ph.D. in Human Nutritional Sciences from Iowa State University of Science and Technology, Ames, Iowa, USA, in 2007. Following his undergraduate study at the University of Ghana, Aryeetey worked as a Research Assistant with the WHO Multicentre Growth Reference Study at the University of Ghana between 1999 and 2001. After pursuing his master's degree at the University of Ghana, he worked as a Research Officer with the Dangbe West District Health Directorate. While studying at Iowa State University, he was appointed as a Research Assistant in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition from 2003 to 2007. [6] [8] [9]
Upon his return to Ghana, Aryeetey joined the School of Public Health as a Lecturer, and from 2010 to 2013, he served as the Head of the Department of Biostatistics. In 2012, he was appointed senior lecturer and served in this capacity until 2017 when he was made associate professor. [10] In 2020 he was appointed Professor of the Population, Family, and Reproductive Health Department of the school of Public Health. [6] [8]
Aryeetey is a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences and co-chair of the Task Team for Ghana's first Food-Based Dietary Guidelines. Additionally, he is an executive committee member of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) movement, [11] and serves as co-chair of the WHO Guidelines Development Committee for the upcoming Global Guidelines on Complementary Feeding. In addition to his teaching roles, Aryeetey has held other positions. In 2014, he was the Project Manager for a University of Ghana Research Project titled "Building Capacity for Sustainable Livelihoods and Health through Public-Private Linkages in Agriculture and Health Systems." [8]
Aryeetey's research focuses on ecological and household-level support for enhancing infant and young child feeding practices. He is involved in community-based interventions aimed at improving food and nutrition security. His work also explores the ecological determinants of overweight and nutrition-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Additionally, he conducts assessments of physical activity and nutritional status across different stages of the life cycle. Clifford Nii Boi Tagoe, is a Ghanaian academic who is the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana. He has been teaching anatomy for over 25 years in Ghana and abroad and in 2000 he became Professor of Anatomy and Dean at the University of Ghana Medical School. In 2005, he became acting vice chancellor of the university. He served for five years and was succeeded in 2010 by Ernest Aryeetey.

Prior to his appointment as vice-chancellor, he was a senior fellow and director of the Africa Growth Initiative at the Brookings Institution, Washington, D.C. He was also director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) of the University of Ghana, Legon for the period February 2003 to January 2010.

The Balme Library, established in 1948 is located on the main campus of the University of Ghana. The Balme Library was named after David Mowbray Balme, the first Principal of the University of Ghana. Alice Hinda Lichtenstein is an American professor and researcher in nutrition and heart disease. She is an expert on cardiovascular health, and has been recognized for her research on dietary fat. Designated a distinguished university professor, she directs a cardiovascular nutrition laboratory at a USDA center on aging and holds the Stanley N. Gershoff chair in nutrition science and policy at the Friedman School of Nutrition, Tufts University in downtown Boston.
Ebenezer Oduro Owusu is a Ghanaian entomologist and university administrator who served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana from 1 August 2016 to 31 July 2021. In this role, he was the principal academic and administrative officer of the university. Owusu is a professor of entomology at the Department of Animal Biology and Conservation Science and prior to his appointment as vice-chancellor, he was the provost of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences at the University of Ghana. He is the current President of the Presbyterian University College.
Frederick Torgbor Sai, was a Ghanaian academic and family health physician who co-founded the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana in 1967. A gender and reproductive health advocate, he was known for his campaigns and education drawing attention to the food and nutrition problems of Africa, particularly of women and children. He served as the Chief Physician for Nutrition and the Director of Medical Services at the Ghana Health Service and Professor of Community Health at the University of Ghana, Legon. He was also a nutrition advisor to the Food and Agriculture Organisation, Africa Region as well as the coordinator for the World Hunger Programme of the United Nations University and a Senior Population Advisor to the World Bank. He was the President and Honorary Secretary of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. In professional circles, he was known as the “Godfather or Father of Family Planning” and sometimes as the “Grandfather of Maternal Health”.

George Tawia Odamtten, is a Ghanaian mycologist and academic at the University of Ghana. He was professor at the Department of Plant and Environmental Biology and formerly dean of the erstwhile faculty of science of the University of Ghana. He is the editor-in-chief of the Ghana Journal of Science and a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Isabella Akyinbah Quakyi is a Ghanaian academic. She is a professor of Immunology and Parasitology at the University of Ghana and the Foundation Dean of the University of Ghana School of Public Health. She is also a researcher in the field of medicine and a health practitioner. She is a fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences, and a fellow of the African Academy of Sciences. Professor Quakyi was recognized by Newsweek magazine as one of “seven women scientists who defied the odds and changed science forever”.

He also works as a Consultant Pathologist at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the Ghana College of Physicians, and the West African College of Physicians, of which he served as president from 2013 to 2014.

Raymond Akongburo Atuguba is the Professor of General Jurisprudence and Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law from 2019 to 2025, where he has been a faculty member since 2002. He served as a Visiting Professor of Law and the Henry J. Steiner Visiting Professor of Human Rights at Harvard Law School from 2018 to 2019.
