Rick Iversen is a retired American soccer defender who played professionally in the American Professional Soccer League and USISL.

Youth

In 1987, Iversen, in his only season with the San Diego State University men's soccer team, went to the final of the 1987 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. He then transferred to California State University, Northridge. In December 1988, Iversen scored the game-winning goal to put CSUN into the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship final where they fell to Florida Tech. [1] He was the 1988 NCAA Division II Defensive MVP. [2] In addition to playing collegiate soccer, Iversen also spent two seasons with the San Diego Nomads in the Western Soccer Alliance (1986-1987). [3] In 1988, he played for the Los Angeles Heat. [4]

Professional

On April 26, 1989, Iversen turned professional with the Victoria Vistas of the Canadian Soccer League. [5] [6] In 1990, he moved to Europe to play for AaB Aalborg. Iversen was back in the United States in 1991 to play for the Miami Freedom of the American Professional Soccer League. [7] In 1992, he returned to California where he would spend the rest of his career. He began by joining the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks. [8] In 1994, he played for the Silicon Valley Firebirds in the USISL. In 1996, Iversen signed with the San Jose Clash of Major League Soccer. He never played for the Clash, but went on loan to the Reno Rattlers. On October 2, 1996, the Clash waived Iversen. In 1997 and 1998, Iversen finished his career with the California Jaguars.

In 1993, the team competed in USISL as the San Jose Hawks, but left organized competition at the end of the season.

Tim Martin is a former American soccer defender. Over his twelve-year professional career, he played with numerous teams in six leagues, winning the 1994 U.S. Open Cup with the San Francisco Greek-Americans and the 1991 American Professional Soccer League title with the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks. He also earned two caps with the U.S. national team. Since retiring from playing in 2000, he has become a college and youth soccer coach.

Portland Timbers, previously known as F.C. Portland, came into existence in 1985 as an independent U.S. soccer team based in Portland, Oregon. In 1989, the team adopted the name Portland Timbers. Portland was composed of both professional and amateur players. The amateur players largely came from local Portland amateur leagues. It played its games in Portland's Civic Stadium.

Scott "Benny" Benedetti is an American retired soccer player. He began his professional career with the semi-professional F.C. Portland in 1986 and ended it with the U.S. second division club Portland Timbers in 2005. While he spent most of his career in the U.S. divisions, he had just over a season in Major League Soccer and half a season in the Primera División de México with UNAM Pumas. He earned one cap with the U.S. national team in 1996. He played in such places as South Korea, Thailand, England, Austria and Scotland.
