Risa Saraswati (born 24 February 1985) is an Indonesian singer, songwriter and author of Sundanese descent. She was a former lead singer and a founding member of Indonesian indie pop group, Homogenic (later known as HMGNC). In 2009, Saraswati announced her resignation as the band's lead singer to form a new band, Sarasvati. [2] In 2012, she writes her debut best-selling book, Danur which spawned three film adaptations. Music career

Saraswati began involved with music since high school and after graduated, she became seriously active in music. In 2002, Saraswati along with her schoolmate, Dina Dellyana formed Homogenic (named after Icelandic singer Bjork's 1997 album of the same name; renamed HMGNC in 2015), where she took the role as lead singer and Dina playing keyboards and composed music. Grahadea Kusuf joined the band afterwards, wherein he playing synth and composed songs, thus completing the band as a trio. Saraswati produced two albums with the band: Epic Symphony (2004) and Echoes of the Universe (2006). [5]

She leave the band in October 2009 after seven years together, but maintains relationship with her former HMGNC bandmates. She was replaced by Amandia Syachridar as the band's new lead singer. Then, she formed her own band, Sarasvati which performs gospel music and has produced five studio albums with the band. [2] [5] In 2017, Saraswati reunited with HMGNC when the band released their eponymous fourth studio album. [6]

Writing career

As a writer, Saraswati mostly focused on horror fiction in her works [3] and widely known for writing mystical stories. [7] In January 2012, she released her debut book, titled Danur containing 214 pages. The success of Danur led to its three film adaptations, wherein Saraswati credited as a screenplay writer. [8]

In January 2020, Jurnal Risa: Teror Liburan Sekolah, a children's story book written by Saraswati, was published. [9]

Personal life

Saraswati married Dimas Tri "Dimasta" Adityo on 15 February 2019. [10] Their first child, Anaking Raga Janari, was born on 15 January 2020. [11]

Danur is a 2017 Indonesian horror film directed by Awi Suryadi and written by Lele Laila, starring Prilly Latuconsina, Shareefa Daanish, Wesley Andrew in lead roles. The film's story is adapted from a novel written by Risa Saraswati and based is based on a friendship between ghosts and humans. It is the highest-grossing Indonesian horror movie and has led to two sequels, Danur 2: Maddah and Danur 3: Sunyaruri. Three spin-offs, Asih (2018), Silam (2018), Asih 2 (2020) and Ivanna (2022), have also been released.

HMGNC is the eponymous fifth studio album by Indonesian pop band HMGNC, released on October 2, 2017. The album saw the band reunited with its former lead vocalist, Risa Saraswati who left the band in 2009 to pursue her solo career. "Il Sogno" is a song by Indonesian singer Isyana Sarasvati. It was released under her own record label Redrose Records as a single on 6 March 2021. Written by Isyana herself, the song describes her dreams and her attempt to understand them. The recording was produced by Kenan Loui and combines progressive rock and classical music elements just like Sarasvati's songs since her third album Lexicon (2019).

Isyana is the fourth studio album by Isyana Sarasvati, the album was released on 26 May 2023 through her record label Redrose Records, being her first full release under the label.
