Rita Atukwasa is a Member of the Parliament of Uganda in the Eleventh Parliament, Public Policy Analyst, Gender specialist and Trainer for Gender and Equity Budgeting. She is also a former Executive director at The Institute for Social Transformation (IST) Uganda. [1] She is the Woman Member of Parliament of Mbarara district having won the January, 2021 as an independent candidate. [2] Rita is also a member of the Gender Based Violence Prevention Network.

Background and education

Rita Atukwasa has a degree in Social Administration and Political Science from Makerere University in 2001. She also attained a Post Graduate Diploma from Institute for Training for Transformation South Africa. She then did a Master's Degree in Public Policy and Governance from the Uganda Management Institute in 2016.

Career

Rita Atukwasa served as the Program manager Advocacy human Rights for the Kamwokya Christian Caring Community from August 2004 to 2011. [3] Rita then served as the CEO of the Uganda Women's Parliamentary Association of the Parliament Of Uganda up to July, 2012. [4] She then served as a Policy Analyst for the Institute for Social Transformation from August 2012 to 2016 before becoming its Executive Director in 2016 to present. [5] Rita Atukwasa is the woman member of Parliament for Mbarara city in the Eleventh Parliament of Uganda. [6]

Michael Tusiime is a Ugandan economist, tax consultant, administrator and politician. He is the elected Member of Parliament for Mbarara Municipality and a representative for NRM, the ruling political party in Uganda. Tusiime is a member of the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities & State Enterprises and the Committee on Presidential Affairs in the 10th Parliament of Uganda.

Achiro Lucy Otim, commonly referred to as Lucy Achiro Otim is a female Ugandan politician and a Gender Specialist. She is the district woman representative for Aruu North County consistency, Pader district in the 10th Parliament. Achiro belongs to an independent political party at the Parliament of Uganda. She won the parliamentary seat running as an independent candidate in 2016. Her tenure as member of parliament was cut short when the Ugandan supreme court nullified her election for non-compliance with electoral laws because the electoral commission failed to carry out a vote recount after she had won with a two vote margin, beating James Nabinson Kidega of the National Resistance Movement (NRM). However, she returned as member of parliament after being re-elected Aruu north member of parliament in the April 2017 election by again beating Kidega, this time 64 percent to 32 percent.

Aisha Sekindi is a Ugandan educator and legislator. As of February 2022, she serves as Uganda's Minister of State for Water and the woman representative for Kalungu district in Uganda's eleventh parliament. She held the same position in Uganda's tenth parliament. Politically, she is affiliated to the National Resistance Movement under whose ticket she contested in the 2016 general election, achieving victory over Aisha Naluyati Waligo.
