Snowdonia is a mountainous region in northwestern Wales and a national park of 823 square miles (2,130 km2) in area. It was the first to be designated of the three national parks in Wales, in 1951. It contains the highest peaks in the United Kingdom outside of Scotland.
Gwynedd is a county in Wales, sharing borders with Powys, Conwy, Denbighshire, Anglesey over the Menai Strait, and Ceredigion over the River Dyfi. The scenic Llŷn Peninsula and most of Snowdonia National Park are in Gwynedd. Bangor is the home of Bangor University. In the northern part of the county, the other main settlements are Caernarfon, Bethesda, Ffestiniog, Porthmadog and Pwllheli. The largest settlement in the south is Tywyn.
Porthmadog, known before 1974 by its anglicised name of Portmadoc and locally as "Port", is a Welsh coastal town and community in the Eifionydd area of Gwynedd. Before the re-organisation of 1974 it was in the historic county of Caernarfonshire. It lies 5 miles (8 km) east of Criccieth, 11 miles (18 km) south-west of Blaenau Ffestiniog, 25 miles (40 km) north of Dolgellau and 20 miles (32 km) south of Caernarfon, with a community population of 4,185 and an estimated 4,107 in 2018. It developed in the 19th century as a port for slate sent to England and elsewhere, but since the decline of the industry it has become a shopping centre and tourist destination. It is close to Snowdonia National Park and the terminus of the Ffestiniog Railway. The 1987 National Eisteddfod was held in Porthmadog. It includes the nearby villages of Borth-y-Gest, Morfa Bychan and Tremadog.
Dafydd Iwan Jones is a Welsh folk singer and politician. He was the president of Plaid Cymru (2003–2010).
Tanygrisiau is a village and area within Blaenau Ffestiniog in the upper end of the Vale of Ffestiniog in the county of Gwynedd, north-west Wales. It can be found along the southern side of the Moelwyn mountain range and dates to around 1750. It joins onto the semi-urban area of Blaenau Ffestiniog, and is in the community of Ffestiniog; located between 650 feet (200 m) and 750 feet (230 m) above sea level. it is in the electoral ward of Bowydd and Rhiw which had a 2011 census population of 1878.
Peter Prendergast was a Welsh landscape painter. After the death of Sir Kyffin Williams in September 2006, he was recognised/known as the leading landscape painter in Wales.
Ogwyn Davies was a Welsh artist, born in Trebanos in the Swansea Valley. He studied at the Swansea School of Art, before living and working in Tregaron, Ceredigion. Ysgol Eifionydd is a bilingual comprehensive school in Porthmadog, Gwynedd, Wales. The majority of its students speak Welsh as a first language and receive their education through the medium of Welsh. The school is located next to the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway in Porthmadog.
Welsh art refers to the traditions in the visual arts associated with Wales and its people. Most art found in, or connected with, Wales is essentially a regional variant of the forms and styles of the rest of the British Isles, a very different situation from that of Welsh literature. The term Art in Wales is often used in the absence of a clear sense of what "Welsh art" is, and to include the very large body of work, especially in landscape art, produced by non-Welsh artists in Wales since the later 18th century.

He serves on the Governing Council of the Royal Cambrian Society and is a member of the Wirral Society of Arts.
