Robert "Bobby" Bunda (born April 25,1947) is a former Democratic member of the Hawaii Senate,representing the 22nd District from 1994 through 2010,when he resigned his position in an unsuccessful bid for Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii. [1]
The 2009 Achievement Award for Public Affairs was conferred to Bunda by Filipinas Magazine. [2] The magazine,self-described as "the Magazine for Filipinos Worldwide" named Bunda as among the "brightest lights" of the Filipino community. [3]
Bunda announced on October 13,2009,that he had entered the 2010 race for Lieutenant Governor for the State of Hawaiʻi. [1]
Benjamin Jerome Cayetano is an American politician and author who served as the fifth governor of the State of Hawaii from 1994 to 2002. He is the first Filipino American to serve as a state governor in the United States.
Linda Lingle is an American politician who served as the sixth governor of Hawaii from 2002 to 2010. She was the first Republican elected governor of Hawaii since 1959,and was the state's first female and first Jewish governor. Prior to serving as governor,Lingle served as mayor of Maui County from 1991 to 1999 and as chair of the Hawaii Republican Party from 1999 to 2002.
Daniel Ken Inouye was an American attorney,soldier,and politician who served as a United States senator from Hawaii from 1963 until his death in 2012. Beginning in 1959,Inouye was the first U.S. Representative for the State of Hawaii,and a Medal of Honor recipient. A member of the Democratic Party,he also served as the president pro tempore of the United States Senate from 2010 until his death. Inouye was the highest-ranking Asian-American politician in U.S. history until Kamala Harris became vice president in 2021. Inouye also chaired various senate committees,including those on Intelligence,Indian Affairs,Commerce,and Appropriations.
The Hawaii State Senate is the upper house of the Hawaii State Legislature. It consists of twenty-five members elected from an equal number of constituent districts across the islands and is led by the President of the Senate,elected from the membership of the body,currently Ron Kouchi. The forerunner of the Hawaii Senate during the government of the Kingdom of Hawaii was the House of Nobles originated in 1840. In 1894,the Constitution of the Republic of Hawaii renamed the upper house the present senate. Senators are elected to four-year terms and are not subject to term limits.

The 2010 Hawaii gubernatorial election was held on November 2,2010,to elect the next Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii. Incumbent Republican Governor Linda Lingle was term-limited and not eligible to run for re-election. The Democratic Party nominated Neil Abercrombie,and the Republican Party nominated incumbent Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona. In the election,Abercrombie won and was sworn in as the state's 7th Governor on December 6,2010. Aiona later unsuccessfully ran for Governor of Hawaii in 2014 and 2022.
The 2011 Louisiana gubernatorial election was held on October 22 with 10 candidates competing in a nonpartisan blanket primary. Incumbent Republican Bobby Jindal won a second term. Since he won an outright majority of the vote in the blanket primary,a runoff election that would have otherwise occurred on November 19 was unnecessary. This was the last time until 2023 that a Republican was elected governor of Louisiana,or that a Louisiana governor election was decided without a runoff.

The Thirty-Second Hawaii State Legislature is the current meeting of the State Legislature of the U.S. state of Hawaii,composed of the Hawaii House of Representatives and the Hawaii Senate. It was constituted in Hawaii from November 8,2022 and is scheduled to adjourn on November 5,2024,during the first two years of Josh Green's first term as governor. In the 2022 elections,the Democrats retained their majority in both chambers despite the Republicans gaining seats. The House welcomed 18 new representatives,and the Senate welcomed 4 new senators.
