Eugene Luther Gore Vidal was an American writer and public intellectual known for his acerbic epigrammatic wit. His novels and essays interrogated the social and sexual norms he perceived as driving American life. Vidal was heavily involved in politics, and unsuccessfully sought office twice as a Democratic Party candidate, first in 1960 to the United States House of Representatives, and later in 1982 to the United States Senate.

Myra Breckinridge is a 1968 satirical novel by Gore Vidal written in the form of a diary. Set in Hollywood in the 1960s, the novel also contains candid and irreverent glimpses into the machinations within the film industry.

Jean-Pierre Vidal is a French alpine skier. As a young skier, he focused mainly on downhill. After hurting his knee, however, he decided to go for slalom. In 2002, he had his best year, winning a gold medal in the 2002 Winter Olympics and taking a World Cup win in Kranjska Gora. A song was called after him and in the French ski resort Les Sybelles, a lift was named after his gold medal as well . After this fantastic year, it took Vidal until 2006 to return to the highest level of skiing competition. In January 2006, he won a World Cup race in Kitzbühel. Barely a month later, on February 24, 2006, he broke his forearm during a training session in Turin. He then decided to stop his professional career. At this time, the 2006 Winter Olympics were not over yet.
The slalom competition is shorter than the giant slalom, but is otherwise similar in emphasizing maneuverability. Slalom has been a part of all the Winter Olympics since 1936, although it was a part of the alpine combination that year. Only the downhill event has a longer history at the Winter Olympics. The men's slalom took place on 25 February and was the last of the Olympic alpine skiing competitions.
Robert "Bob" Lucien LeGendre was an American track and field athlete. He competed in the pentathlon at the 1920 and 1924 Summer Olympics and finished in fourth and third place, respectively. He failed to qualify for the 1924 Olympics in the long jump, yet at the 1924 Olympic pentathlon competition he set a world record in that event at 7.76 metres (25.5 ft). He won the pentathlon at the Inter-Allied Games in 1919, beating Eugene Vidal and Géo André.

Marta Andrade Vidal is a Spanish former competitive figure skater. She is an eight-time Spanish national champion and competed in two Winter Olympics, placing 20th in 1994 and 22nd in 1998. She competed in eleven World Championships, achieving her highest placement, 19th, in 2002 in Nagano, Japan.

Juan Fortuny Vidal was a Spanish freestyle and medley swimmer who competed in the 1964 Summer Olympics and in the 1968 Summer Olympics. Fortuny died on 9 February 2024, at the age of 77.
Jorge Henrique da Costa Vides is a Brazilian track and field sprinter who competes in the 100 metres and 200 metres. He represented his country at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He holds a 200 m personal best of 20.34 seconds.
