The US Open Tennis Championships is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually in Queens, New York. Since 1987, the US Open has been chronologically the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year. The other three, in chronological order, are the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. The US Open starts on the last Monday of August and continues for two weeks, with the middle weekend coinciding with the US Labor Day holiday. The tournament is of one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, originally known as the U.S. National Championship, for which men's singles and men's doubles were first played in August 1881. It is the only Grand Slam that was not affected by cancellation of World War I and World War II or interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Cedarhurst is a village in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on the South Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. The population was 6,592 at the 2010 census.

The Five Towns is an informal grouping of villages and hamlets in Nassau County, United States on the South Shore of western Long Island adjoining the border with Queens County in New York City. Although there is no official Five Towns designation, "the basic five are Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Woodmere, Hewlett and Inwood." Each of these "towns" has a consecutive stop on the Far Rockaway Branch of the Long Island Rail Road. All five communities are part of the Town of Hempstead. Woodmere is the largest and most populous community in the Five Towns, while Inwood is the second largest community in the Five Towns.

History of the Rockaways from the Year 1685 to 1917 is a book by historian Alfred Henry Bellot. It was the 35th staging of the U.S. National Championships, the first held at Forest Hills and the second Grand Slam tennis event of the year.
Hugh Laurence Doherty was a British tennis player and the younger brother of tennis player Reginald Doherty. He was a six-time Grand Slam champion and a double Olympic Gold medalist at the 1900 Summer Olympics in singles and doubles. In 1903 he became the first non-American player to win the U.S. National Championships.

The Hudson River Championships also known as the Hudson River Association Championships was a combined men's and women's tennis tournament founded in 1888 by the Hudson River Lawn Tennis Association. It was first played at the Far and Near Lawn Tennis Club, Hastings-on-Hudson, New York,United States. It was then played various venues of the association members through till 1910 when it was discontinued.
The Bar Harbor Club Open was a men's and women's tennis tournament founded in 1888 as the Bar Harbor Open. In 1899 it was rebranded as the Bar Harbor Invitation It was first organised by the Bar Harbor Lawn Tennis Club, Bar Harbor, Maine, United States. The first tournament ran until 1914 then was discontinued. In 1926 the tournament was revived and in 1929 the event was moved to the new held at the Bar Harbor Club that ran until 1972.
The Englewoood Invitation was a men's and women's tennis tournament founded in 1887 as the Englewood Open that was also known as the Bergen County Open played at the Englewood Field Club, Englewood, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States until 1970 when it was abolished.
The Westchester Invitation also known as the Westchester Bowl Invitation was a tennis tournament founded in 1885 as the Westchester Lawn Tennis Club (Invitation) and first played at the Westchester Lawn Tennis Club, Harrison, Westchester County, New York, United States.
The Elberon Casino Invitation was an early men's tennis tournament founded in 1887 as the Elberon Lawn Tennis Club Open and played at Elberon, Monmouth County, New Jersey, United States until 1888.
