The Rockford Park District was formed in 1909 and is governed by an elected five-member board of commissioners who serve six-year terms without compensation. It is the third largest municipal park system in Illinois, serving the communities of Rockford, Illinois, including Loves Park, Cherry Valley, New Milford, and adjacent unincorporated areas of Boone County and Winnebago County. The District serves a population of 208,132 with 84,083 households residing within the Park District boundaries. [1] The Rockford Park District has twice been awarded the prestigious National Gold Medal for excellence in parks and recreation management, and is a Distinguished Agency, professionally accredited for high standards and superior services. Agricultural Society Fair Grounds was a fairground on the west side of Rockford, Illinois. It served as the grounds for the Winnebago County Agricultural Society. It was used as a baseball grounds by the Rockford Forest Citys baseball club of the National Association during the 1871 season, so it is considered a major league ballpark by those who consider the NA to have been a major league. The Forest Citys had played their home games at the Fair Grounds beginning in 1866, and continued to call it home for the 1871 season.

It was renamed to its current name when sold by the Shriners and was renovated into one and two bedroom efficiency apartments.

Camp Grant was a U.S. Army facility located in the southern outskirts of Rockford, Illinois named in honor of American Civil War general Ulysses S. Grant. Camp Grant covered an area of 5,600 acres during World War I and 3,200 acres during World War II, and was in operation from 1917 to 1946.

WILV is a radio station broadcasting a Christian Contemporary format as an affiliate of K-LOVE. Licensed to Loves Park, Illinois and serving the Rockford, Illinois area, the station is currently owned by Educational Media Foundation.

Harlem High School is a public secondary school and part of the Harlem School District 122 in Machesney Park, Illinois, USA. It has approximately 2,600 students. The freshman campus for 9th grade was closed in 2019; new freshmen are incorporated into the main high school. Its sport teams are named the Harlem Huskies.
