Rodolfo embarked on his political journey in 2012 by vying for state office as an independent candidate. Subsequently, in 2022, he aligned himself with the Indian National Congress (INC) when the opportunity arose. This strategic move led to his successful election to the esteemed Goa State Legislature later that year. Rodolfo's political lineage traces back to his late mother, Victoria Fernandes who held the prestigious position of Santa Cruz MLA from 1994 until 2012. Notably, Victoria began her political career as an Independent before transitioning to represent the INC in 1997. However, her aspirations were dashed in 2012 when the INC opted to allocate the Santa Cruz constituency seat to Atanasio Monserrate, who had previously served the Taleigao constituency from 2007 to 2012. The political reshuffle saw Jennifer Monserrate, Atanasio's spouse, securing the Taleigao constituency seat in 2012.

Political career

In 2012, at Rodolfo Louis Fernandes' initial attempt he ran as an Independent, a seat held by his late mother Victoria Fernandes and lost to Atanasio Monserrate of INC by a margin of 2336 votes which was 10.93% of the total votes polled. Monserrate was barred from Indian National Congress for anti-party activities in 2015. [2] Subsequently, Atanasio jumped ship to BJP.

In 2017, Rodolfo ran for a second time again as an Independent and lost to Antonio Fernandes of INC, in a field of eight candidates. The winner of this contest was Antonio with 6202 votes. Hemant Golatkar and Rodolfo Fernandes, procured 5560 and 5262 votes respectively of the 22,215 total votes. Antonio Fernandes switched from INC to BJP in 2019. Antonio was denied the INC party seat in 2022.

In 2022, Rodolfo Fernandes, ran for the third time but now as Indian National Congress candidate. This seat was held by his mother late former Goa MLA Victoria Fernandes. The political patience was rewarded in 2022. Rodolfo Fernandes defeated Antonia Fernandes who had switched to BJP mid stream. Rodolfo procured 8841 votes to Antonio 6377. Rudolfo switched from the National Congress party to the BJP party subsequently.

Personal Life

Rodolfo Louis Fernandes, a scion of the esteemed Fernandes lineage, was born amidst the verdant splendor of Bondir, Santa Cruz, Goa, to the venerable Andre Francisco Xavier Romao Fernandes and the gracious Victoria Fernandes. His scholastic journey commenced at the venerable halls of Santa Cruz High School, where he imbibed knowledge with fervent dedication. Subsequently, he ascended to the exalted realms of academia at Dhempe College of Art and Science in the idyllic locale of Miramar, Panaji. In matters of matrimony, Rodolfo is espoused to the esteemed Maria, and their union has been blessed with the divine gift of three cherubic offspring. Furthermore, within the illustrious Fernandes clan, he finds kinship among six sisters and one brother, a testament to the familial bonds that endure through generations. Devout adherents to the venerable traditions of Roman Catholicism, the Fernandes family epitomizes faith and piety. Rodolfo's academic odyssey was marked by scholastic excellence, culminating in the completion of his Xth grade at Santa Cruz High School, a sojourn at the esteemed Don Bosco, and ultimately, his XIIth grade at Dhempe College of Art and Science, Miramar Panaji.
