Gordon County is a county located in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2010 census, the population was 55,186. The county seat is Calhoun.

Georgia (U.S. state) State of the United States of America

Georgia is a state in the Southeastern United States. It began as a British colony in 1733, the last and southernmost of the original Thirteen Colonies to be established. Named after King George II of Great Britain, the Province of Georgia covered the area from South Carolina south to Spanish Florida and west to French Louisiana at the Mississippi River. Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the United States Constitution, on January 2, 1788. In 1802–1804, western Georgia was split to the Mississippi Territory, which later split to form Alabama with part of former West Florida in 1819. Georgia declared its secession from the Union on January 19, 1861, and was one of the original seven Confederate states. It was the last state to be restored to the Union, on July 15, 1870. Georgia is the 24th largest and the 8th most populous of the 50 United States. From 2007 to 2008, 14 of Georgia's counties ranked among the nation's 100 fastest-growing, second only to Texas. Georgia is known as the Peach State and the Empire State of the South. Atlanta, the state's capital and most populous city, has been named a global city. Atlanta's metropolitan area contains about 55% of the population of the entire state.

Hugh Anderson Haralson was an American farmer, lawyer and politician based in Lagrange, Georgia. He graduated from Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. He served in the state legislature from 1831 to 1832 and the state senate from 1837 to 1838. He was commissioned as a major general in the Georgia Militia, 9th Division, in 1838. He represented Georgia in the U.S. Congress from 1843 to 1851. He was the father-in-law of the famous Confederate General John Gordon.

New Echota

New Echota was the capital of the Cherokee Nation from 1825 to their forced removal in the 1830s. New Echota is located in present-day Gordon County, Georgia, 3.68 miles north of Calhoun, Georgia, and south of Resaca, Georgia. The site is a state park and a historic site, and is designated as a National Historic Landmark.

Gordon State College

Gordon State College is a public college in Barnesville, Georgia. A member of the University System of Georgia, Gordon State's academic year is made up of three 15-week semesters: fall, spring and summer. Fall 2017 enrollment at Gordon State College was 3,900 students. The college campus incorporates 235 acres, which includes academic buildings, residence halls, the student activity and recreation center, an indoor swimming facility, ropes course, walking trail, outdoor basketball courts, tennis courts, athletic fields and racquetball courts.

Georgia State Route 225 highway in Georgia

State Route 225 (SR 225) is a 36.1-mile-long (58.1 km) north–south state highway that traverses through the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels through portions of Gordon and Murray counties. It is the most direct route for citizens of Murray County to reach Calhoun, Interstate 75 (I-75), and Cleveland, Tennessee.

Oakman is an unincorporated community in Gordon County, in the U.S. state of Georgia.

Petersburg is an unincorporated community in Gordon County, in the U.S. state of Georgia.

Saffold is an unincorporated community in Early County, Georgia, United States. Its western boundary is the Chattahoochee River also bordering Gordon, Alabama. U.S. Route 84 and SR 370 pass through the community. It is located 20 miles south of Blakely, 21 miles northeast of Dothan, Alabama, five miles south of the Georgia-Pacific Cedar Springs Operations, and two miles northwest of Jakin. It is a small unincorporated community near the Alabama state line. At the Georgia state line, U.S Route 84 starts and ends with Saffold the only unincorporated community on the route. Georgia State Route 370 is the first and last state route for SR 62 and U.S. Route 84. In Christmas of 2015, a flood struck Saffold, Gordon, Hilton and Columbia, Alabama.

Hill City is an unincorporated community in Gordon County, in the U.S. state of Georgia.
