Roger McLachlan (born 15 January 1954) is a New Zealand bass guitarist based in Australia. He was an early bass player for Little River Band.

Early life

McLachlan was born on 15 January 1954 in the small town of Riverton, near Invercargill, New Zealand. [1] He came to Australia in 1974 to join the touring band for the stage musical Godspell . [2]

Little River Band

In 1975, McLachlan was invited to join the supergroup Little River Band, replacing the short tenure of Dave Orams. [3] He appeared on the first two albums Little River Band and After Hours , and toured extensively, making 311 appearances with the band. [4] He was replaced by George McArdle in 1976. [5] By 1998, all original members of Little River Band had left. Guitarist Stephen Housden revived the band, and asked McLachlan to re-join. He remained with the band for a year, until the pressure of touring in the United States led him to depart again. [6]

Subsequent career

McLachlan joined country-rock outfit Stars in 1976, remaining with them into 1977.

He is part of the Stars re-formed lineup of 2019. [7]

Rose Tattoo are an Australian rock and roll band, now led by Angry Anderson, which formed in Sydney in 1976. Their sound is hard rock mixed with blues rock influences, with songs including "Bad Boy for Love", "Rock 'n' Roll Outlaw", "Nice Boys", "We Can't Be Beaten" and "Scarred for Life". Their first four albums were produced by Harry Vanda and George Young who also worked with AC/DC. Love Runs Blind, often abbreviated as LRB, was a Bangladeshi rock band formed in 1991 in Chittagong City by Ayub Bachchu. They are one of the most successful bands of Bangladesh. Whispering Jack is the twelfth studio album by Australian adult contemporary pop singer John Farnham. It was produced by Ross Fraser, and released on 20 October 1986, peaking at #1 on the Australian Kent Music Report Album Charts. Whispering Jack has become the second best-selling-album in Australia, behind Meatloaf's album Bat Out of Hell, and the highest selling album in Australia by an Australian artist - 24x platinum indicating sales of over 1.68 million copies sold. It spent 25 weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Album Charts during 1986–1987, it was awarded the 1987 ARIA Award for "Album of the Year", and was the best charting album for the decade of the 1980s in Australia. Stephen Wade is an English-born Australian-based singer, songwriter and musician. He won the Australian Songwriter of the Year in 1989 and 1990. Riccardo Formosa is an Italian-born Australian musician and composer. He was the lead guitarist of the pop band Little River Band from 1975 to 1976 and recorded their first two albums, Little River Band and After Hours.

Stars are an Australian country rock band formed in Adelaide, South Australia in 1975 and disbanding in 1979, before re-forming in 2019. Founding members were Glyn Dowding on drums; Malcolm Eastick on guitar and vocals; Mick Pealing on vocals; and Graham Thompson on bass guitar. They were joined by guitarist, songwriter, Andrew Durant in 1976 and relocated to Melbourne. Thompson then left and was replaced by a succession of bass guitarists including Roger McLachlan and Ian McDonald.

Paradise is the debut studio album by Australian country rock music group, Stars, released in December 1977 via Mushroom Records, which peaked at number 14 on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart, remaining in the chart for 20 weeks. The line-up was Glyn Dowding on drums, Andrew Durant on lead vocals and guitar, Malcolm Eastick on lead guitar, Roger McLachlan on bass guitar and Mick Pealing on lead vocals.

David Orams is a New Zealand bass guitarist and vocalist. He was, briefly, the first bassist with Little River Band in 1975. He was replaced by Roger McLachlan before the band started to tour and record.
