St. Charles County is located in the central eastern part of the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2020 census, the population was 405,262, making it Missouri's third-most populous county. Its county seat is St. Charles. The county was organized October 1, 1812, and named for Saint Charles Borromeo, an Italian cardinal.

Missouri's third congressional district is in the eastern and central portion of the state. It stretches from the southern part of Columbia and the state capital of Jefferson City in the west to St. Charles County and western Jefferson County in the east. The district took its current form in 2023, when Cooper and parts of Boone counties were added to the district, while Franklin and most of Warren counties were instead drawn into the 2nd district, and much of Lincoln County moved to the 6th district. Its current representative is Republican Bob Onder.

The 2020 Missouri gubernatorial election was held on November 3, 2020, to elect the governor of Missouri, concurrently with the 2020 U.S. presidential election, as well as elections to the United States Senate, elections to the United States House of Representatives, and various state and local elections. Incumbent Republican governor Mike Parson ran for and was elected to a full term in office. Parson was elected as lieutenant governor in 2016 but became governor on June 1, 2018, after incumbent Eric Greitens resigned under threat of impeachment by the state legislature. Parson declared his bid for a full term on September 8, 2019. State Auditor Nicole Galloway, Missouri's only Democratic statewide officer and only female statewide officer, was the Democratic nominee and if elected, would have become Missouri's first female governor.

Shamed Dogan is an American politician. He is a former Republican member of the Missouri House of Representatives, representing the 98th District in St. Louis County. His district included parts of Ballwin, Ellisville, Fenton, and Wildwood. Dogan was first elected in November 2014.

Justin S. Hill is an American businessman and politician from the state of Missouri. A Republican, Hill was first elected to the Missouri House of Representatives from Missouri's 108th District in November 2014 and served until his resignation in January 2022. He represented a portion of St. Charles County in the Lake St. Louis area, south of I-70 and straddling U.S. Route 40/61. Hill previously served in the O'Fallon Police Department.
