Ronald Henry Ward (1 December 1915 – 1 August 2000) was a New Zealand rugby union player. A flanker, Clark represented Southland, Hawke's Bay and, briefly, Canterbury at a provincial level. He was a member of the New Zealand national side, the All Blacks, in 1936 and 1937, playing four matches for the team including three internationals. Ward's playing career was effectively truncated by World War II, but between 1957 and 1961 he was coach and selector of the Southland team. [1]

The Canterbury Rugby Football Union is the governing body for Rugby Union in a portion of the Canterbury region of New Zealand. Its colours are red and black in a hooped design. The CRFU govern the running of the Canterbury representative team which has won New Zealand's first-tier domestic competition National Provincial Championship 14 times including a "six-peat" from 2008 to 2013 – with five in the National Provincial Championship, two in the Air New Zealand Cup, five in the ITM Cup and one in the Mitre 10 Cup. Edward Hughes, was a New Zealand rugby union and rugby league footballer who played 9 times as an All Black hooker from 1907 until 1921 and twice for the Kiwis in 1910. His All Black career is unique in that there was a gap of 13 years between test matches, and that he is the oldest player ever to have played for the All Blacks, at age 40 years, 123 days.

Billy Stead, born John William Stead, was a rugby union player born in Invercargill who played for New Zealand, the All Blacks, on their 1905–06 tour. Stead also played provincially for Southland, and later coached various teams, including Southland and the New Zealand Māori. A bootmaker by trade, he also co-authored The Complete Rugby Footballer with Dave Gallaher, and was a columnist for the Southland Times, and New Zealand Truth.

The 2009 Air New Zealand Cup was the 33rd provincial rugby union competition, the fourth since the competition's reconstruction in 2006, involving the top 14 provincial unions in New Zealand. It ran for 15 weeks from 30 July to 7 November. It was also the last edition of the provincial competition to use the Air New Zealand Cup name, as the competition's sponsorship contract with Air New Zealand ended after that season. The 2010 competition will be held under a new name, the ITM Cup.

Rutledge is widely known as New Zealands best hooker to have never played for the All Blacks. His nickname is Cabbage.
