Ronald Jean Jumeau (born January 24, 1957) is a Seychellois political figure and diplomat. He is currently the New York-based roving Ambassador for Climate Change and Small Island Developing State Issues of the Republic of Seychelles since 2012. Previously, Ambassador Jumeau has held various ministerial positions in the government from 1998 to 2007, and adopted the role of Permanent Representative of the Seychelles to the United Nations and Ambassador to the United States from 2007-2012. [1]
Jumeau was born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He attended secondary school at Seychelles College, from which he graduated in 1975. Early in his career he was a journalist; from 1978 – 1980 as a Reporter for the Government Information Services and as the Editor of Seychelles Agence Presse and the Seychelles Nation daily newspaper from 1980 to 1993. Subsequently, he was an adviser with special press duties at the Ministry of Education from 1991 to 1993, and he was Secretary to the Cabinet in the office of the President of Seychelles and at the same time secretary of four inter-ministerial Cabinet committees from 1994 to 1998; additionally, Jumeau was in charge of the government's relations with the National Assembly from 1995 to 1998. In 1992 and 1993, Jumeau was a member of the delegation of the ruling Seychelles People's Progressive Front (SPPF) to the first and second Seychelles Constitutional Commissions. Since 1995, he has been a member of the Central Committee of the SPPF. [1] Jumeau was Minister for Agriculture and Marine Resources from 1998 to 1999, then Minister for Culture and Information from 2000 to September 2001, Minister for the Environment from September 2001 to 2003, and Minister for the Environment and Natural Resources (i.e. agriculture and marine resources) from 2003 to 2007. He was appointed as Permanent Representative to the UN in 2007, presenting his credentials on August 23, 2007; [1] he was also appointed as Ambassador to the United States, presenting his credentials on September 18, 2007. Amb. Jumeau was posted to New York in 2007 as Seychelles’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Ambassador to the United States, Canada, Brazil and several Caribbean islands until 2012. He has been Chair of the Steering Committee of the Global Island Partnership (GLISPA – www.glispa.org) since 2013 and Chief Spokesperson of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS – www.aosis.org) since 2012. Jumeau is the AOSIS Island Champion for the United Nations International Year of Small Island Developing States (IYSIDS) representing the AIMS region (Atlantic, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and South China Sea)
The politics of Seychelles have historical roots in both one-party socialism and autocratic rule. Following independence from the United Kingdom in 1976, Seychelles was a sovereign republic until 1977, when the original President and leader of the Seychelles Democratic Party, James Mancham, was overthrown in a bloodless coup by the Prime Minister France-Albert René. René installed a single-party socialist state under the Seychelles People's Progressive Front in 1979 which remained in power until 1993, when multiparty elections took place for the first time since independence, after restoring the multi-party system in 1991. Modern day Seychelles governance takes place in a framework of a presidential republic, whereby the President of Seychelles is both head of state and head of government, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and the National Assembly.
France-Albert René was a Seychellois lawyer, politician and statesman who served as the second President of Seychelles from 1977 to 2004. He also served as the country's second Prime Minister from its independence in 1976 to 1977.
James Alix Michel, GCSK is a Seychellois politician who served as the third President of Seychelles from 2004 to 2016. He previously served as vice president under his predecessor, France-Albert René, from 1996 to 2004.
Jérémie Émile Patrick Bonnelame is a Seychellois political figure and diplomat. He was Secretary-General of the Indian Ocean Commission from 1993 to 1997, Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1997 to 2005, and was the Permanent Representative of the Seychelles to the United Nations from 2005 to 2007. He was the Chairman of the Constitutional Appointment Authority from July 2007 to July 2014(CAA).
Martin Belinga Eboutou was a Cameroonian political figure and diplomat who was the Director of the Civil Cabinet of the Presidency of Cameroon from 2009 to March 2018. He previously held the same post from 1996 to 1997 and was Cameroon's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from March 1998 to December 2007. Belinga died on 8 May 2019 in Switzerland, aged 79.
Mihnea Ioan Motoc is a Romanian diplomat who served as Minister of Defence of Romania between November 2015 and January 2017, in the Cioloș Cabinet. Before this appointment, he was the country's ambassador to the European Union between 2008 and 2015, and briefly the country's ambassador to the United Kingdom. He is currently the Principal Adviser in the European Commission's Inspire, Debate, Engage and Accelerate Action (IDEA) department.

Fekitamoeloa Katoa ‘Utoikamanu is a Tongan civil servant, diplomat and former Cabinet Minister. From 2005 to 2009 she was Tonga's permanent ambassador to the United Nations, and from 2017 to 2021 she was United Nations High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States. From 2021 to 2024 she was Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The history of Seychelles dates back to the fourth of the Portuguese India Armadas led by Vasco da Gama, though Seychelles was likely already known to Arab navigators and other sailors for many centuries. On 15 March 1503, the scrivener Thomé Lopes noted the sighting of an elevated island, doubtless one of the granitic islands and almost certainly Silhouette Island. The first recorded landing was by the men of the English East India Company ship Ascension, which arrived in Seychelles in January 1609. The islands were claimed by France in 1756. Seychelles remained uninhabited until the first settlers arrived on board the ship Thélemaque, which arrived on 27 August 1770. Captain Leblanc Lecore landed the first colonists, comprising 15 white men, eight Africans and five Indians. The Seychellois Creole language developed as a means of communication between the different races. The British frigate Orpheus commanded by Captain Henry Newcome arrived at Mahé on 16 May 1794. Terms of capitulation were drawn up and the next day Seychelles was surrendered to Britain. Following the fall of Mauritius to British forces, Captain Phillip Beaver of the Nisus arrived at Mahé on 23 April 1811 and took possession of Seychelles as a permanent colony of Britain. The Seychelles became an independent republic in 1976. Following a coup d'état, a socialist one-party state ruled the country from 1977 to 1993. The subsequent democratic Presidential elections were won by candidates of the same party.
Cuban-Pacific relations are diplomatic, economic, cultural, and other relations between the Cuba and countries situated in Oceania. In the 2000s, Cuba has been strengthening its relations with Pacific nations, which have, for the most part, responded favorably to Cuban medical aid in particular. The first Cuba-Pacific Islands ministerial meeting was held in September 2008 in Havana, with government members from ten Pacific countries—Kiribati, Tuvalu, Nauru, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu, Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia and Papua New Guinea—attending. The meeting was a consolidation rather than a starting point of Cuban-Pacific relations.
Afelee Falema Pita is a Tuvaluan diplomat. He was Tuvalu's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 19 December 2006. to December 2012. He also was the ambassador to the United States.

Jean-Paul Adam is a Seychellois politician. He served as Minister of Health and Social Affairs in the Cabinet of Seychelles until 30 October 2020. He previously served as Minister of Finance, Trade & The Blue Economy from 2015 to 2016, and, before that, as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2015. He is currently Director Policy, Monitoring and Advocacy in the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa to the Secretary-General. Immediately prior to this, over 2020–2023, he was Director for Technology, Climate Change and Natural Resources Management at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa.
