Ronan Lyons

Ronan Lyons OBE FFPH FFPHMI FLSW is the inaugural Clinical Professor of Public Health at Swansea University Medical School. [1] He is Director of the National Centre for Population Health and Wellbeing Research (NCPHWR), [2] Director of the Farr Institute Centre for the Improvement of Population Health through E-records Research (CIPHER), [3] Co-director of the Secure Anonymised Information Linkage (SAIL) system, co-director of the Centre for the Development and Evaluation of Complex Interventions for Public Health Improvement (DECIPHer), [4] and co-director of the Administrative Data Research Centre Wales. Education and early career

Lyons trained at Mercer's Hospital, Dublin and qualified in medicine from the School of Medicine in 1983. He later completed an MPH degree at University College Dublin in 1988 and an MD from Trinity College Dublin in 1993. After several years in hospital and community medicine, Lyons undertook specialist training in public health in Ireland before being appointed a consultant with the West Glamorgan Health Authority (now Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board) in 1992.[ citation needed ]

Professional roles

Along with his position as Clinical Professor of Public Health at Swansea University Medical School, Lyons is an Honorary Consultant with Public Health Wales NHS Trust [6] and adjunct professor at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University, Australia. [7]

Lyons was appointed an Honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2021, with the appointment being made substantive (OBE) in January 2022. [10] [11]

Lyons is also Chair of the International Collaborative Effort on Injury Statistics (Injury ICE) at the US National Center for Health Statistics. [12]

Frederick M. "Skip" Burkle, Jr. is an American physician known for his work in human rights, international diplomacy and peacemaking, humanitarian assistance, and disaster response. He has been called "the single most talented and experienced post-conflict health specialist working for the United States government." His medical qualifications include pediatrics, emergency medicine, psychiatry, public health, and tropical medicine.

Ann John, FLSW is a Professor in Public Health and Psychiatry at the Swansea University Medical School. She chairs the National Advisory Group to Welsh Government on the prevention of suicide and self-harm. She is an honorary consultant in Public Health medicine for Public Health Wales and Trustee of the Mental Health Foundation. In 2019, she was elected as a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales.

William Gerard Anthony Holohan is an Irish public health physician who served as Chief Medical Officer of Ireland from May 2008 to 1 July 2022. Fergal Bowers described him as being "as familiar as Dr Anthony Fauci in the US and arguably as influential".

Ronan Glynn is an Irish public health physician and physiotherapist who served as Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Ireland from October 2018 to May 2022. His research has focussed on traumatic brain injury, bionic vision, and medical engineering. He is best known for devising an operation to remove hypothalamic haematomas from children's brains. Since 2021 he has been the Patron of the Australian Friends of Sheba Medical Centre organization.
