Rosmit Mantilla (born 13 December 1982) is a Venezuelan politician,who was elected to the National Assembly of Venezuela in the 2015 Venezuelan parliamentary election. [1] He is noted as the first openly gay politician ever elected to the National Assembly. [1]
He is a member of the Voluntad Popular party. An LGBT rights activist,Mantilla was arrested in May 2014 [2] during the 2014–15 Venezuelan protests against the government of Nicolás Maduro. [3] He was detained at El Helicoide. [4]
He was declared a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International,which lobbied for his release. [1] Along with Renzo Prieto and Gilberto Sojo,he was one of three people elected to the National Assembly in the 2015 election who were still in jail on election day due to charges stemming from the 2014 protests.
On November 11,2016 it was reported that he was transferred to the Military Hospital because of a delicate health condition. [5] A few months earlier it had been reported he had gallstones and was very ill. [6] On November 15,2016 his mother,Ingrid Flores,reported he had been transferred once again but this time to the Urólogico San Román to treat a stomach infection that was affecting his pancreas. [7] On November 17,2016 he was finally released after two and a half years in prison. [2] In an interview with the digital site Panorama he said he would take a few days off to be with his family and was quoted as saying,"I am filled with hope and my commitment to Venezuela is stronger than ever. I will continue to fight for human rights and to achieve freedom for Venezuela and other prisoners of conscience. This is why I want to thank those that helped me be here today". [8]
In 2020,he left Popular Will citing differences with the party's leadership. [9] He has been a member of the centre-right Encuentro Ciudadano party since then. [10]
Lesbian,gay,bisexual,and transgender (LGBT) people in Venezuela face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBT residents. Both male and female types of same-sex sexual activity are legal in Venezuela,but same-sex couples and households headed by same-sex couples are not eligible for the same legal protections available to opposite-sex married couples. Also,same-sex marriage and de facto unions are constitutionally banned since 1999.
Leopoldo Eduardo López Mendoza is a Venezuelan opposition leader. He co-founded the political party Primero Justicia in 2000 with Julio Borges. López was elected mayor of the Chacao Municipality of Caracas in the regional elections held in July 2000. He is the National Coordinator of another political party,Voluntad Popular,which he founded in 2009.

Popular Will is a political party in Venezuela founded by former Mayor of Chacao,Leopoldo López,who is its national co-ordinator. The party previously held 14 out of 167 seats in the Venezuelan National Assembly,the country's parliament,and is a member of the Democratic Unity Roundtable,the electoral coalition that held a plurality in the National Assembly between 2015 and 2020. The party describes itself as progressive and social-democratic,and was admitted into the Socialist International in December 2014.The party was formed in reaction to complaints of infringements of individual freedom and human rights on the part of the government of the Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez and his successor,Nicolás Maduro. The party attempts to bring together Venezuelans of various backgrounds who consider Chavismo oppressive and authoritarian. Popular Will self-identifies itself as "a pluralist and democratic movement" that is committed to "progress",which it defines as the realization of "the social,economic,political,and human rights of every Venezuelan." The party says its "fundamental pillars" are progress,democracy,and social action.
Juan Requesens Martínez is a deputy of the Venezuelan National Assembly,elected in 2015 and sworn in on 5 January 2016. He was a student leader at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV),and a leader of student opposition protesters during the 2014 Venezuelan protests. He led marches opposing the Government of Venezuela under President Nicolás Maduro,seeking "to turn the student rebellion into a broader social movement".

Tamara Adrián is a Venezuelan politician,who was elected to the National Assembly of Venezuela in the 2015 Venezuelan parliamentary election. She is noted as the first transgender person elected to office in Venezuela,and only the second transgender member of a national legislature in the Western Hemisphere. Some early media coverage credited her as the first transgender member of a legislature in the Americas,but this was later corrected due to the election of Michelle Suárez Bértora to the Senate of Uruguay in 2014.

Freddy Guevara is a Venezuelan politician. He was elected deputy to the Venezuelan National Assembly for Circuit 2 of the Miranda State representing the Democratic Unity Roundtable in the parliamentary elections of December 6,2015. He has been a key figure of the opposition to Nicolás Maduro,Guevara was arrested in July 2021 charged with crimes against the state. The United States and others condemned the arrest as politically-motivated. In mid-August,he was freed as part of negotiations between the Maduro government and the Venezuelan opposition.
Juan Requesens,a deputy of the Venezuelan National Assembly,was arrested as a suspect in the Caracas drone attack,an alleged assassination plot on the Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. The circumstances of his arrest and detention are controversial,and irregularities surround the legal proceedings. Requesens was imprisoned in El Helicoide from his arrest on 7 August 2018,with allegations of torture to coerce a confession,and delays impeding the legal process and hearings until his release on 28 August 2020.
Geraldine Patricia Chacón Villarroel is a lawyer,human rights advocate and student of Liberal Studies at the Universidad Metropolitana in Caracas. Chacón was declared a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International who issued an urgent action calling for her immediate and unconditional release on 27 April 2018.
Roberto Eugenio Marrero Borjas is a Venezuelan attorney,politician,and chief of staff to Juan Guaidó;he was arrested by SEBIN during a raid on his home in the early morning hours of 21 March 2019,and detained in El Helicoide,a prison run by SEBIN and "considered the country's largest torture center" according to Clarín. Marrero is also an attorney for Leopoldo López;López is Guaidó's mentor and a political prisoner.

Luis Carlos Díaz Vázquez is a Venezuelan journalist and cyberactivist. He has worked at the Instituto Radiofónico Fe y Alegría,the Centro Gumilla and newspapers such as El Nacional and Tal Cual,as well as a radio host at Circuito Unión Radio,and served as a member of the editorial board of SIC magazine. Luis Carlos was arbitrarily detained in 2019 by agents of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (SEBIN) during the nationwide blackouts of that year,being declared by Amnesty International as a prisoner of conscience. He was released the following day with precautionary measures and his case was archived in 2021,suspending such measures.
