Las Cruces is the second-most populous city in the U.S. state of New Mexico and the seat of Doña Ana County. As of the 2020 census the population was 111,385. Las Cruces is the most populous city in both Doña Ana County and southern New Mexico. The Las Cruces metropolitan area had an estimated population of 213,849 in 2017. It is the principal city of a metropolitan statistical area which encompasses all of Doña Ana County and is part of the larger El Paso–Las Cruces combined statistical area with a population of 1,088,420 making it the 56th largest combined statistical area in the United States.

The White Sands International Film Festival (WSIFF) started in Alamogordo, New Mexico, as a week long event in March 2008 to showcases narrative and documentary films. The festival was created to support the work of Hispanic and New Mexican Filmmakers. The festival moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, in 2009.
Kenneth Daniel Gallegos Miyagishima is an American businessman and politician who served as the mayor of Las Cruces, New Mexico from 2007 to 2023. In 2023, after serving for 16 years, he stepped down, and was succeeded by Eric Enriquez.

Oscar Cantú is a Mexican-American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who has been serving as bishop of the Diocese of San Jose in California since 2018. He served as bishop of the Diocese of Las Cruces in New Mexico from 2013 to 2018, and as an auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of San Antonio in Texas from 2008 to 2013. When Cantú became a bishop in 2008, he was the youngest bishop in the United States.
The 1959 New Mexico A&M Aggies football team represented New Mexico State University in the Border Conference during the 1959 NCAA University Division football season. In their second year under head coach Warren B. Woodson, the Aggies compiled an 8–3 record, finished in third place in the conference, and defeated North Texas State in the 1959 Sun Bowl.

The 1951 Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks football team represented Stephen F. Austin State College—now known as Stephen F. Austin State University—as a member of the Lone Star Conference (LSC) during the 1951 college football season. Led by fifth-year head coach Ted Jefferies, the Lumberjacks compiled an overall record of 4–4–1 with a mark of 2–3 in conference play, tying for fourth place in the LSC.
