Route 48 was a limited stop bus, identified as a "Quickbus", operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore and its suburbs. The line ran from the University of Maryland Transit Center to Towson along the York Road/Greenmount Avenue corridor. Service operated Monday through Saturday every 15 minutes between 5:30 AM and 6:30 PM. [2]

Route 48 was identical to the local Route 8 bus, except that it did not operate along the segment between Towson and Lutherville. But, unlike the Route 8 local bus, the 48 did not stop at every bus stop along its route. Rather, its stops were limited to certain locations of importance, including transfer points to other bus lines, major landmarks, and other busy intersections selected by MTA. In total, there were 28 stops along the route. [2] [3]

History

The Route 48 Quickbus began service on August 30, 2009, replacing the Route 8 Express Bus. [4] [5] It was the second of Quickbus route initiated by MTA; Route 40 was rebranded as the MTA's first Quickbus on January 30, 2007. [6]

The no. 48 designation has previously been used for several streetcar and bus routes, including the No. 48 Streetcar, which operated between Mt. Washington and Belvedere loop in 1949-50 along the present route of Route 27, [7] the SEET Shuttle which operated briefly 1988-89, and a series of routes for students of the Baltimore City Public Schools that operated 1997-2004. [8]

Route 48 was replaced by CityLink Red on June 18, 2017 as part of the BaltimoreLink transit overhaul program. [9]

The line currently runs from the Inner Harbor with most trips operating to Cromwell Bridge Road Park and Ride in Baynesville along the corridors of Loch Raven Boulevard and St. Paul Street, with selected trips to Sheppard Pratt Hospital in Towson, mostly via Joppa Road, and some trips making short turns at Loch Raven and Taylor. It is the successor to the 17 St. Paul Street streetcar line that ran from 1893 to 1938 and the Route T bus that ran from 1939 to 1947 and the Route 3 bus which ran until 2017.

On August 27th, 2023, QuickBus 40, was re-launched after it was discontinued in 2017.

The line currently runs from the center of Towson to the Inner Harbor in Downtown Baltimore, serving the Charles Street corridor. Route 51 replaced Route 11 on June 18, 2017 due to the BaltimoreLink bus system overhaul.

Route 54 is a bus route operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore and its suburbs. The route was formerly known as Route 19 prior to 2017. The line currently runs from the State Center Metro Subway Station to the intersection of Harford Road and Northern Parkway. From there it splits into two branches. About one half of buses continue operating along Harford Road to the Carney Park-and-Ride just north of the I-695 interchange, and the other half to the intersection of Goucher Boulevard and Taylor Avenue in Towson via Northern, McLean Boulevard, Hillsway, and Taylor. The line serves the communities of Montebello, Hamilton, and Parkville.

The line ran from the Cedonia Loop in Northeast Baltimore to the Paradise Loop, in Catonsville. Service operated every 15 minutes during rush hour only. The line served the corridors of Frederick Avenue in West Baltimore, and Sinclair Lane/Cedonia Ave in Northeast Baltimore including the communities of Yale Heights, and Gwynns Falls in West Baltimore, and Berea and Parkside in East Baltimore.

Route 47 is a limited stop bus route, identified as a "Quickbus", operated by the Maryland Transit Administration in Baltimore. The line currently runs from the Overlea Loop in Northeast Baltimore to Walbrook Junction, in West Baltimore. Service operates every 15 minutes during rush hour only. The main roads on which it operates include Poplar Grove Street, Saratoga Street, Gay Street, and Belair Road. Service operates Monday–Friday, every 15 minutes, from 5:30 a.m.– 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m.
