Ibrahim Shekarau is a former Nigerian minister of education and two-term Governor of Kano State in Nigeria. He was elected in April 2003 and re-elected in April 2007. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He was one of the candidates who aspired to become president in the Nigerian general elections of 2011.

Abdussalam Abdulkarim Zaura, also known as A. A. Zaura, is a Nigerian businessman, philanthropist, and politician. He is the founder of the A. A. Zaura Foundation, a non-governmental organization that focuses on humanitarian and developmental projects. He contested the Kano Central senatorial election in 2023 as a candidate of the APC, but lost to Rufa'i Hanga of the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP).
