The Rusty Ps is a hip hop/rap group based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Initially known as the Rusty Pelicans after forming in 1995, its membership currently consists of Phantom Channel (MC), Count Classic (MC), S Watson (production), and Madhatter (DJ).
Also known as "Caddilac", the Count is an original member of the Rusty Pelicans/Rusty Ps. Mcing since 1992, Count had been a member of various groups and crews until he, Phantom Channel, Oneself and Dana Coppafeel decided to start their own crew called "Rusty Pelicans", writing, recording and performing their own unique style of hip hop.
Phantom Channel has been emceeing since 1992 working in various groups and has been writing, recording and performing as an original member of the Rusty Pelicans/Rusty Ps since 1995. Phantom Channel was a featured emcee on the Recycled Future release, "The Nettle" (2005). He has also done a guest spot with Mic Virus (The Virus) on the M.A.K.E.S. Ent. Compilation, "Makes Sense" (2003). Currently, Phantom Channel is working on a collaborative project with The LMNTlyst, titled, The Lab Partners. An experimental project that finds PC expanding his repertoire and playing live drums and vocals throughout. No further information about this project is available at this time.
DJ Madhatter joined the Rusty Ps in the year 2002. He began deejaying in 1998 and moved to Milwaukee, WI from his hometown of Kenosha, WI. Jordan " Madhatter" Lee began playing drums and making music before the age of ten. His musical roots were deeply based in soul, funk and rhythm and blues, but were also inspired later in his teens by punk, ska, reggae, and rock. Jordan's roots in drumming and years of voice and theatre training, made the progression into working with hip hop a smooth one. Music has always been, and continues to be, the major building block of his life. Jordan now can be heard as one half of the weekday morning show on 88.9 WYMS Radio Milwaukee.
S Watson has been producing for the Rusty Ps since 1997. All of his released work has been produced using the Akai MPC 2000, except the Rusty Pelicans first release, the "Prototype" single, which was produced using the Akai S-20. According to Watson, "music is love" and he intends to use it to bring "peace" to the human family.
The story of the Rusty Ps begins in 1982 when S Watson attended kindergarten with the Phantom Channel. The two attended Neskara Elementary in Milwaukee, WI, for their first year of school. Watson, an import to Milwaukee from Chicago and Channel a Milwaukee native became good friends right off the bat but parted ways after this first year of school.
From there, Phantom Channel went on to attend school with the Count Classic. It was first grade at St. Sebastian's in Milwaukee. Count Classic soon moved to Madison WI.
Phantom Channel, remaining at "Sebs" for the rest of his grade school education soon reunited with S Watson in the 6th grade as Watson began attending St Sebastian's as well. They finished their elementary education there and parted ways for different high schools.
Count Classic returned from Madison and attended Nicolet High School. There he met Oneself and continued at Nicolet for his entire high school education.
Oneself, having left Nicolet after the first two years of high school, attended West Division High School. There he met Phantom Channel and Dana Coppafeel who had been attending that school since freshman year. Oneself reunited Channel with Classic, the old friends from first grade. They all graduated from their respective schools in 1995 and Phantom Channel and Mr. Smith went on to move into an apartment with their good friend Count Classic.
Already music lovers and hip hop "heads" the four, Classic, Channel, Oneself and Coppafeel, remained friends and having learned much of the culture of hip hop in high school began small freestyle sessions with other local aspiring rappers and also invested in a small beat machine, the DR-5. Meanwhile, S Watson went on to attend the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. He left school after approximately 6 months and returned home.
Without any connections in Milwaukee, Watson called his old friend Phantom Channel and began hanging out with who would soon become the Rusty Pelicans. Watson remained in Milwaukee for 6 months and went on to attend a recording arts school, Full Sail, in Winter Park, FL.
It was during this time, 1996, that the Rusty Pelicans were taking shape in a basement apartment on Milwaukee's east side.
The Rusty Ps has toured nationally and internationally with groups such as The Pharcyde, Killa Kella -International Beat Box Champion and DJ Hype (Germany). As a supporting act, Rusty Ps has also performed with groups such as Run DMC, Eminem, The Roots, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Ludacris, Ice Cube, The Black Eyed Peas, Jurassic 5, Slick Rick, Digital Underground, Masta Ace, Elzhi of Slum Village, Hieroglyphics, Del the Funky Homosapien, Souls of Mischief, Casual, Styles of Beyond, The High & Mighty, The X-Ecutioners, Blackalicious, DJ Shadow, Latyrx, Nappy Roots, Brother Ali, Murs, and Atmosphere.
The Rusty Ps is a three time WAMI award winner for the Best Hip-Hop/Rap category, in the years 2000, 2001 and 2006. With nominations in 1999, and 2002, 2008, 2009.
Voted "best of" Milwaukee hiphop / rap group by the readers of the Shepherd Express in the years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005.
The Rusty Ps single "Foundation" was voted in at #58 in the Top 100 Songs of 2008 by the listeners of the online poll conducted by 88.9 Radio Milwaukee.
The Rusty Ps win the "Earwig Award" for catchiest song of the year.

Kurtis el Khaleel, known by the stage name Kurtis Mantronik, is a Jamaican-born hip hop and electronic-music artist, DJ, remixer, and producer. He was the leader, DJ, and keyboardist of the influential 1980s hip hop and electro-funk group Mantronix. He currently lives in South Africa where he has produced and remixed house and techno music tracks by artists such as India, Junior Senior, Kylie Minogue, Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers, Michael Gray, Victoria Beckham, Liberty X, and Mim. Mantronik was influential in the development of hip hop music: notably, he laid the foundations for Southern hip hop genres such as Miami bass and trap music, and helped popularize the Amen break.
Grand Central Records was an independent record label based in the Northern Quarter of Manchester, England. It was started in 1995 by DJ Mark Rae. Rae started out working as manager of the Fat City Records' store. The two labels maintained a close relationship, co-hosting club nights including Friends and Family.
London Posse was a British hip hop group. According to The Daily Telegraph, they "finally gave British rap an identity of its own." London Posse member Bionic led the charge for UK and worldwide artists to use their own accents and languages rather than copy Americans and was the architect behind their biggest hit "Money Mad" introducing 'road style' to UK hip hop and mixing it with ragga/dancehall.
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five were an American hip hop group formed in the South Bronx of New York City in 1978. The group's members were Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel, Kidd Creole, Keef Cowboy, Scorpio, and Rahiem. The group's use of turntablism, breakbeat DJing, and conscious lyricism were significant in the early development of hip hop music.
Robert "Bobbito" Garcia, also known as DJ Cucumber Slice and Kool Bob Love, is an American DJ, author, streetball player, streetball coach, and member of the Rock Steady Crew. He is known as a former co-host of hip hop radio show The Stretch Armstrong and Bobbito Show, alongside Adrian "Stretch Armstrong" Bartos, from 1990 until 1999. He later moved to Washington, D.C., where he currently hosts a new podcast on NPR called What's Good? alongside Bartos.
Aron Smith, known by his stage name Oneself or MC Oneself, is an American hip hop artist based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A former member of the Rusty Ps, he began his career in 1995.
Lawless Element is an underground hip hop duo from Detroit, Michigan. The duo is composed of cousins Griot as emcee and Magnif as DJ, producer and emcee. The duo of Magnif and Griot became engulfed in hip hop culture at the ages of 6 and 9, and spent their teenage years honing their skills on the production boards and on the microphone. At the ages of 16 and 19, the duo released their first single, titled "Mic Check", in 2003 on Running Man Records. The next year, the duo hooked up with fellow Detroit native, producer J Dilla, to release the single "The Shining". In early 2005, LE worked with Dilla's Jaylib partner Madlib on the single "High", which landed them a deal with popular independent rap label Babygrande Records. Their debut album, Soundvision: In Stereo, was released in September 2005 to generally positive reviews. Soundvision featured production from Magnif, J Dilla and Madlib and guest appearances from Dilla, Melanie Rutherford, Phat Kat, Big Tone, P.Dot, SelfSays and Diverse. "Rules Pt. 2" was the album's lead single, and also became the duo's first music video. URB magazine gave the album 4 out of 5 stars and stated that it was "Heavily influenced by the golden age of De La Soul, Pete Rock and DJ Premier" and that it featured "12 top-shelf tracks" The album also earned the duo Featured Artist status on the Okayplayer website. Magnif has continued production work for a number of other underground acts, and released a mixtape titled SupaBeatMaker in late 2005. The duo has announced plans for their second album, tentatively titled Evil, scheduled for released in 2008 on Babygrande Records. Magnif is also planning the release of a full-length production and solo album.
ATIC Records is an independent record label formed by British musician, DJ and producer, Aim and Niko. They left Grand Central Records in early 2005 and started ATIC Records in June 2006.

John R. Austin II, better known by his stage name Ras Kass, is an American rapper. He is a member of the hip hop supergroup The HRSMN, along with Canibus, Killah Priest, and Kurupt in 2014. He is also a member of the group Golden State Warriors with Xzibit and Saafir. About.com ranked him No. 30 on their list of the Top 50 MCs of Our Time (1987–2007), while Pitchfork Media called him "one of the best rappers of all time."
Penthouse Players Clique was an American hip hop duo that consisted of rappers Playa Hamm and Tweed Cadillac. They were signed to Eazy-E's Ruthless Records, for which they released their debut and only album to date, Paid the Cost, in 1992. Paid the Cost featured production by DJ Quik, and guest verses by Quik, Eazy-E and AMG. The group appeared on the soundtracks to films Class Act and Trespass. The group's two members reunited in 2001 for Playa Hamm's debut solo album Layin' Hands, specifically on the tracks "Break the Bank" and "Grindin'". Joshua Solomon Jeremiah Jordan, better known by his stage name, Never Yet Contested, is an American rapper, artist, songwriter, and record producer. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York.
Marcus Vialva, better known by his stage name Shabaam Sahdeeq, is an alternative hip hop artist from Brooklyn, New York. He first reached fame with Rawkus Records and was featured alongside artists including Busta Rhymes, Redman, Method Man, Kool G Rap, Common, Mos Def and Eminem. Shabaam Sahdeeq is notable for his work on the Soundbombing and Lyricist Lounge series in the late 1990s and the early 2000s. In 1998, Sahdeeq collaborated with DJ Spinna, Mr. Complex and Apani B to form the hip-hop collective Polyrhythm Addicts, a supergroup renowned for its pivotal role in the explosion of late 1990s indie hip-hop. The single "Not Your Ordinary: gained a positive critical and commercial reception, which paved the way for their first album, Rhyme Related, released in 1999, and widely regarded as a hip-hop classic. After this success, the group disbanded to focus on their individual careers. Sahdeeq's distinct voice and unique delivery catapulted him to mainstream stardom on the "Simon Says" Remix alongside label mate Pharoahe Monch. He is currently releasing music independently. Shabaam Sahdeeq's recent work has been receiving rave reviews in some of the biggest hip-hop publications.
"Life of the Party" is a 2012 song performed by American recording artist Emcee N.I.C.E. and features the singing debut of actress Stacey Dash and newcomer Blake Smith. It was produced by Ralph “Phantom” Stacy. It serves as the remix to the original version produced by Kelly Keys which features just Blake Smith. It was the lead single from Emcee N.I.C.E.’s 2015 debut studio album, However U Want It. The song was written by Aulsondro “Novelist” Hamilton with Stacey Dash joining in on the remix. It came out on October 12, 2012, alongside a long-form music video. The music video broke into the mainstream by TMZ's subsidiary TooFab.
Julian Du Plessis, known by his stage names Snazz D or Snazz the Dictator, is a South African underground rapper and music producer.
Michael Anthony Deering, known by his stage name Mikey D, is an American rapper. He is best known for being a lead member of the groups Mikey D & The L.A. Posse and Main Source. As a member of Main Source, he replaced Large Professor, who parted ways with the group due to business differences. In 1994, he appeared on Main Source's second album, Fuck What You Think, as the lead MC.
