Ryan Steven Plackemeier (born March 5, 1984) is an American former football punter who played in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, where he won the Ray Guy Award and earned unanimous All-American honors. He was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2006 NFL draft, and also played for the Washington Redskins.
Plackemeier was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He attended Fallbrook Union High School in Fallbrook, California, and was a letterman in soccer and football. In soccer, he was a four-year letterman and was twice recognized as his team's most valuable player. In football, as a senior, he was a first team All-Avocado League selection and was named the North County Times Kicker of the Year.
Plackemeier attended Wake Forest University, where he played for coach Jim Grobe's Wake Forest Demon Deacons football team from 2002 to 2005. He was a three-time first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) selection (2003, 2004, 2005), and a unanimous first-team All-American (2005). Following his senior season, he was presented the Ray Guy Award, given annually to the top college punter in the nation.
Plackemeier was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round (239th overall pick) of the 2006 NFL Draft and signed to a four-year, $1.65 million contract. [1]
He was released from the Seahawks on September 9, 2008. [2]
After beating out fellow veteran punter Josh Miller, Plackemeier was signed by the Redskins on October 14, 2008 due to injuries and poor performance that plagued former punter Durant Brooks. He became the second consecutive former Ray Guy Award-winning ACC punter to hold the job for the Redskins. [3]
On February 12, 2009, he was waived by the Redskins.
Plackemeier was claimed off waivers by the Cincinnati Bengals on February 13, 2009. He was waived on April 28, 2009.

His father Steve, a math teacher at Mission Vista High School, was a swimmer and played water polo at Southeast Missouri State and uncle, Jim Israel, played basketball and baseball at Wake Forest. He double majored in communication and religion. He is married to his wife Kristen.
Billy Ray Barnes is an American former professional football player who was a halfback in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football and baseball for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He was a three-time Pro Bowl selection in the NFL. After his playing career, he became a coach.

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons football team represents Wake Forest University in the sport of American football. The Demon Deacons compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Wake Forest plays its home football games at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium and is coached by Dave Clawson.
The 2006 Wake Forest Demon Deacons football team represented Wake Forest University during the 2006 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team was coached by Jim Grobe, in his fifth season at the school, and played its home games at Groves Stadium. The Deacons finished the regular season with a 10–2 record, giving them the first 10-win season in their history, and won the Atlantic Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The subsequent victory in the conference championship game gave Wake Forest their first conference championship in 36 years. As such, they represented the ACC in the Orange Bowl. The team ended the season with an 11–3 record and a number 17 ranking in the nation. The team and its star linebacker Jon Abbate would become the subject of a 2011 feature film, The 5th Quarter. They did not win the Atlantic Division again until 2021.
Steve Vallos is a former American football center in the National Football League (NFL). He was most recently on the roster for the Tennessee Titans of the NFL. He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2007 NFL Draft. He was an All-American at Wake Forest.
Jon Abbate is a former American football linebacker. He played college football at Wake Forest University in 2004–2006 and was signed as a free agent by the Houston Texans of the National Football League (NFL) in 2007.
