Narayanan Vijayaraj Alagarswami,better known by his stage name Vijayakanth,is an Indian politician and former actor who has worked predominantly in Tamil cinema. He was the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016. Before entering politics Vijayakanth was a successful actor,producer and director. Vijayakanth is also the current DMDK chairman of Tamil Nadu legislative assembly. The tenth legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 24 June 1991. The ninth legislative assembly election of Tamil Nadu was held on 21 January 1989. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won the election and its leader M. Karunanidhi,became the Chief Minister. It was his third term in office. The DMK was in power only for a short term,as it was dismissed on 31 January 1991 by the Indian Prime minister Chandra Shekhar using Article 356 (Otherwise) of the Indian Constitution.

Anitha R. Radhakrishnan is an Indian politician,Minister of Tamil Nadu and Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elected from Tiruchendur constituency as AIADMK candidate in 2001,2006 and as DMK candidate in 2009(Bye-election),2011,2016 and 2021. He was also former Minister for Animal Husbandry and Minister for Housing &Urban Development in the 2001 AIADMK government.
