Saatchi Art Group is a Los Angeles-based [1] e-commerce platform and online art gallery. [2] [3] [4] Saatchi Art is an art platform that aims to help new artists enter the global art market. It is composed of the Saatchi Art online marketplace, The Other Art Fair, and the group's Hospitality Art Advisory. [5]
Saatchi Art was founded in 2010 as Saatchi Online, which was owned by Charles Saatchi. [6]
It was acquired by Demand Media, Inc. (currently Leaf Group) in August 2014, [7] which was then bought by Graham Holdings Company in 2021. [4]
In 2016, Saatchi Art acquired The Other Art Fair. [8] Based in London and founded by Ryan Stanier, the Other Art Fair now operates across 3 continents and is the largest artist-led art event in the world.
In 2018, Saatchi Art debuted its hospitality art advisory services, offering art programming for hotels, restaurants, residential buildings, and healthcare institutions. The senior hospitality art advisory team has curated artworks for Four Seasons, Nobu Hotels, 1 Hotels, Waldorf Astoria, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis, and other brands. [9]
In 2023, Sarah Meller was appointed CEO of Saatchi Art. [10] [11] Rebecca Wilson currently serves as Saatchi Art’s chief curator and vice president. She was formerly a director at the Saatchi Gallery in London and was responsible for maintaining the gallery's online presence. [12]
In November 2014, Charles Saatchi, then owner of Saatchi Gallery, initiated multiple legal actions in the United Kingdom's Chancery Division of High Court of Justice against Leaf Group, the current owners of Saatchi Art. [13] Charles Saatchi's contention arose from an alleged breach of an intellectual property agreement dated February 18, 2010, prompting him to ask Demand Media to cease the usage of the “Saatchi Art” name and compensate him for profits made from the name since the alleged breach. He also alleged that the low average transaction price on Saatchi Art might dilute the Saatchi brand's association with the high-end art market. [14] [15]
Stuckism is an international art movement founded in 1999 by Billy Childish and Charles Thomson to promote figurative painting as opposed to conceptual art. By May 2017, the initial group of 13 British artists had expanded to 236 groups in 52 countries.
Damien Steven Hirst is an English artist and art collector. He is one of the Young British Artists (YBAs) who dominated the art scene in the UK during the 1990s. He is reportedly the United Kingdom's richest living artist, with his wealth estimated at US$384 million in the 2020 Sunday Times Rich List. During the 1990s his career was closely linked with the collector Charles Saatchi, but increasing frictions came to a head in 2003 and the relationship ended.
Charles Saatchi is an Iraqi-British businessman and the co-founder, with his brother Maurice, of advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi. The Saatchi Gallery is a London gallery for contemporary art and an independent charity opened by Charles Saatchi in 1985. Frieze Art Fair is an annual contemporary art fair first held in 2003 in London's Regent's Park. Developed by the founders of the contemporary art magazine Frieze, the fair has since expanded to include editions in four cities, in addition to acquiring several other art fairs. Following the original Frieze Art Fair, the fair added Frieze Masters (2012), also in London, dedicated to art made before the year 2000; Frieze New York (2012); Frieze Los Angeles (2019); and Frieze Seoul (2022). In 2023, Frieze acquired The Armory Show in New York, and EXPO Chicago.
Maureen Paley is the American owner of a contemporary art gallery in Bethnal Green, London, where she lives. It was founded in 1984, called Interim Art during the 1990s, and renamed Maureen Paley in 2004. She exhibited Young British Artists at an early stage. Artists represented include Turner Prize winners Lawrence Abu Hamdan, Gillian Wearing and Wolfgang Tillmans. One thing in common with many of the artists represented is their interest in addressing social issues.
Tim Lokiec is an artist based in New York City whose 2003 solo debut artworks were praised by The New York Times for their "remarkable visual and emotional intensity". In 2004, he was cited by London's Frieze Art Fair as being one of the world's most exciting artists who were nominated by 200 leading contemporary art galleries in the world. In 2006, the Kantor Feuer Gallery, known for discovering new talent and developing the careers of artists, and ranked as one of the top galleries in the world, held an exhibition of Lokiec's work. His works are also exhibited in the now British government-owned Saatchi Gallery. Lokiec did the cover design for Rich Bowering's 2011 book Big Fire at Spahn Ranch.

Paddle8 was an online auction house based in New York City selling fine art including Post-War and Contemporary art, prints & multiples, photography, street art and collectibles. Paddle8's sales focus on pieces priced between $1,000 and $100,000, all vetted by specialists for authenticity. Paddle8 had offices in New York, Los Angeles, London and Hong Kong. In 2016, Paddle8 merged with the Berlin online auction house Auctionata. In February 2017, Auctionata declared insolvency and Paddle8 became an independent company once again, before selling to Native in 2018, and then to Facebank AG in 2019. In March 2020, Paddle8 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in New York just one week after the non-profit New American Cinema Group filed a lawsuit against the company for allegedly misappropriating funds from a charity auction.

Gallery 1957 is a contemporary art gallery located in Accra, Ghana. The gallery intends to present artists of West Africa and the diaspora. It was established in March 2016 by British construction company owner Marwan Zakhem. As of 2018, the gallery has shown artists including Serge Attukwei Clottey, Gideon Appah, Modupeola Fadugba, Godfried Donkor, Yaw Owusu, and Zohra Opoku.
1:54 is an annual contemporary African art fair held in London during the October Frieze Week since 2013. It was organized to improve the representation of contemporary African art in worldwide exhibitions, and is the foremost art fair dedicated to contemporary African art in the primary art market. By 2016, the show had become three times the size of the original exhibition with 130 artists represented. A spin-off, pop-up show, 1:54 NY, has been held annually in New York City during the May Frieze New York since 2015. A third location, in Marrakech, began in 2018. Critics have described 1:54 as a highlight of the Frieze event, and wrote that the show's publicity for contemporary African art outweighs the issues of lumping disparate geographic traditions together. The fair's representation from African galleries has improved as the international market for African art expands.
