The Red Flash went to the NCAA tournament 11 times in a 15 year span from 1996 to 2011. They have been a member of the Northeast Conference in women's basketball since 1988, after one season in the ECAC Metro. They have lost in the first round of the tournament each time they have played, with their closest loss being a 51-36 defeat to Villanova in 2003. DeGol Arena is a 3,500-seat multi-purpose arena in Loretto, Pennsylvania. It is home to the Saint Francis University Red Flash men's and women's basketball teams and the men's and women's volleyball teams. It opened in 1972 and is named in honor of Maurice Stokes. The 1991 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament was held there. It was most recently renovated in 1994 and can hold 3500 fans.
The Kent State Golden Flashes men's basketball team represents Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, United States. The team was founded in 1913 and played their first intercollegiate game in January 1915. They joined the Mid-American Conference in 1951 and have played in the East division since the MAC went to the divisional format in 1997. Home games are held at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center, which opened in 1950 and is one of the oldest arenas in college basketball. Rob Senderoff was hired as head coach in 2011, the 24th coach in the program's history.

The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers women's basketball program represented St. Francis College (SFC) in intercollegiate women's basketball. The team was a member of the Division I Northeast Conference from 1988 until 2023. The Terriers played at the Activity Resource Center at Pratt Institute in the Clinton Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. Through the start of the 2022–23 season, the team had played at the Peter Aquilone Court at the Generoso Pope Athletic Complex on SFC's former campus in Brooklyn Heights. At the end of the 2021–22 school year, SFC moved to a new campus on Livingston Street in Downtown Brooklyn that has no athletic facilities; SFC arranged to use The ARC on at least a temporary basis. On March 20, 2023, St. Francis Brooklyn announced the discontinuation of all intercollegiate sports, meaning the 2022–23 season was the final season for the Terriers.

Irwin Vincent Davis was an athletic director and head football coach at Saint Francis University, from which he retired in 1979. He was inducted into the Saint Francis University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1996.

They defeated Bryant and Sacred Heart to reach the championship game of the NEC tournament where they lost to Robert Morris. With 22 wins, they were a candidate for postseason play. However, all postseason tournaments were cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Red Flash fell in the opening round to Lute Olson's Arizona Wildcats. As of 2022, this is their only NCAA tournament appearance.
