History

The Saint Helena Football League is regarded as one of the most remote football leagues in the world. [2] It was founded in 1922. [3] It starts in May and finishes in the winter. [4] Games are played on Francis Plain Playing Field. [5]

Jamestown is the capital city of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, located on the island of Saint Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean. It is also the historic main settlement of the island and is on its north-western coast. Before the development of the port at Rupert's Bay, it was the island's only port and the centre of the island's road and communications network. It was founded when colonists from the English East India Company settled on the island in 1659 and was briefly occupied by the Dutch East India Company in 1673 before being recaptured. Many of the buildings built by the East India Company in the 18th century survive and give the town its distinctive Georgian flavour.

Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha is a British Overseas Territory located in the South Atlantic and consisting of the island of Saint Helena, Ascension Island, and the archipelago of Tristan da Cunha. The Carroll Fighting Saint football program represents Carroll College of Helena, Montana in college football. The team competes in the Frontier Conference, which is affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). The Carroll Fighting Saints football team began playing in 1920 and is one of the most successful programs in the NAIA division of college football. The program has won six NAIA Football National Championships and 40 conference championships, 14 while a member of the Montana Collegiate Conference and 26 as a member of the Frontier Conference. The team is currently coached by Troy Purcell who is in his fifth season at Carroll. The Carroll College Fighting Saints play their home games on campus at Nelson Stadium.

Helena Ólafsdóttir is an Icelandic football manager and former player. A striker during her playing career, she is currently in her second spell as manager of the women's team at Valur in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna. A qualified sports teacher and personal trainer outside of football, Helena grew up in the town of Neskaupstaður before moving to Reykjavík aged 11. She started her career in the youth team at Víkingur Reykjavík before joining KR in the summer of 1986 and went on to score 55 goals in 64 league appearances for the club over the following five seasons. In 1992, she signed for ÍA and it was there that she won the first honours of her career as the side won both the Icelandic Women's Cup and the Icelandic Women's Super Cup that year. She went on to become one of the most successful female Icelandic footballers in history, winning four league titles and six cup winners' medals during her career.
