The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with NCAA Division I. Its current 13 full members are located in five Northeastern states: Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York.
The Northeast Conference (NEC) is a collegiate athletic conference whose schools are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Teams in the NEC compete in Division I for all sports; football competes in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). Participating schools are located principally in the Northeastern United States, from which the conference derives its name.
Saint Peter's University is a private Jesuit university in Jersey City, New Jersey. Founded as Saint Peter's College in 1872 by the Society of Jesus, the university offers over 60 undergraduate and graduate programs to more than 3,600 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate students. Its mascot is the peacock and its sports teams play in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, of which it is a founding member.
Saint Peter's Preparatory School is an independent, preparatory, and all-male day school located in Jersey City, in Hudson County in the U.S. state of New Jersey, within the Archdiocese of Newark. Founded in 1872 by the Jesuits, it is operated as part of the Jesuit East Province. The school has been accredited by the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools.
St. Joseph High School, also known as St. Joe's, is an independent, all-boys Catholic college preparatory school located on a 70-acre (280,000 m2) campus in Metuchen, in Middlesex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The school draws students from an area encompassing over forty school districts and over seventy grammar schools in Middlesex, Monmouth, Somerset, and Union counties, as well as other outlying areas. It is located in the Diocese of Metuchen. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1968 and by the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools since 2022.
The Victor R. Yanitelli, S.J. Recreational Life Center, known today as the Run Baby Run Arena, is a multipurpose athletic facility on the campus of Saint Peter's University, a private, coeducational Jesuit university in Jersey City, New Jersey. Notable for its air-supported "bubble," the Yanitelli Center opened on November 29, 1975 at a cost of $6 million and is named after the 17th president of the college.
Cochrane Stadium is a 4,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Jersey City, New Jersey. Opened in October 1983, the stadium is located in the Ed "Faa" Ford Athletic Complex in the Caven Point area of Jersey City near Liberty State Park and Liberty National Golf Club.
St. Mary High School is a four-year Roman Catholic high school located in Rutherford, in Bergen County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating under the auspices of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 2004.
The Jersey City Armory is an armory for the U.S. Army National Guard at 678 Montgomery Street in the McGinley Square neighborhood in Jersey City, New Jersey. Completed in 1937, the armory was designed by chief architect General Hugh A. Kelly of the Jersey City firm of Kelly and Gruzen in the Beaux-Arts style. In addition to being a military training and mustering facility of the New Jersey National Guard, the WPA era armory has long been used as a sports arena, particularly for boxing, basketball, and track and field events, and more recently mixed martial arts.
The Saint Peter's Peacocks are the sixteen intercollegiate athletic teams that represent Saint Peter's University, located in Jersey City, New Jersey. The Peacocks compete in the NCAA Division I and are founding members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). They previously competed in the Metropolitan Collegiate Conference (MCC) from 1965 to 1969.
The Saint Peter's Peacocks men's basketball team is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's basketball program that represents Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, New Jersey. The school's team competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and plays their home games in Run Baby Run Arena. They are currently led by third-year head coach Bashir Mason, who was hired on April 12, 2022. The Peacocks have appeared in the NCAA tournament five times.
The Saint Peter's Peacocks baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, New Jersey, United States. The team is a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The team plays its home games at Joseph J. Jaroschak Field in Jersey City, New Jersey. The Peacocks are coached by head coach Grant Neary. Saint Peter's has never made the NCAA Division I baseball tournament. Their best chance came in 1994, when they won the MAAC tournament. At the time, certain tournament winners were not given a NCAA bid automatically, and thus Saint Peter's was tasked to play Atlantic 10 member West Virginia in a "NCAA Play-In Series". They lost 8-2 and 8-3 while the Mountaineers went to the NCAA tournament.
As of 2024, New Jersey has six teams from major professional sports leagues playing in the state, with only one team identifying themselves as solely being from the state. The other remaining teams identify themselves as being from the New York metropolitan area with the National Women's Soccer League team having a team name that includes both New Jersey and New York. The National Hockey League and National Basketball Association teams representing Philadelphia have their training facilities in South Jersey.
The Saint Peter's Peacocks women's basketball team is the NCAA Division I intercollegiate women's basketball team that represents Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, New Jersey. The school's team currently competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and plays their home games in Run Baby Run Arena. They are currently led by second-year head coach Jennifer Leedham. The Peacocks have appeared in the NCAA Women's tournament seven times. As with the other women's athletic programs of Saint Peter's University, they were previously known as the Peahens.
The 2016–17 Saint Peter's Peacocks men's basketball team represented Saint Peter's University during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Peacocks, led by 11th-year head coach John Dunne, played their home games at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, New Jersey as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. They finished the season 23–13, 14–6 in MAAC play to finish in second place. They defeated Canisius in the MAAC tournament before losing in the semifinals to Iona. They were invited to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament where they defeated Albany, Texas State, Furman and Texas A&M–Corpus Christi to become CIT champions.
Elnardo Julian Webster Sr. was an American professional basketball player who played one season in the American Basketball Association (ABA). He played college basketball for the Saint Peter's Peacocks. Webster played in the ABA for the New York Nets and Memphis Pros during the 1971–1972 season. He also played in the Lega Basket Serie A in Italy. At a height of 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 m), he played at the small forward position.
Kenechukwu "KC" Ndefo is an American basketball player who last played for the South Bay Lakers of the NBA G League. He played college basketball for the Saint Peter's Peacocks and the Seton Hall Pirates.
The 2021–22 Saint Peter's Peacocks men's basketball team represented Saint Peter's University in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Peacocks, led by fourth-year head coach Shaheen Holloway, played their home games at the Run Baby Run Arena in Jersey City, New Jersey, as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). They finished the season 22–12, 14–6 in MAAC play, to finish in second place. They defeated Fairfield and Quinnipiac in the MAAC tournament, advancing to the championship game. There they defeated Monmouth to win the tournament championship. As a result, they received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, for the first time since 2011, as the No. 15 seed in the East region.
