The Sakhalin Regional Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union , commonly referred to as the Sakhalin CPSU obkom, was the position of highest authority in the Sakhalin Oblast, [nb 1] in the Russian SFSR of the Soviet Union. The position was created in July 1925, and abolished in August 1991. The First Secretary was a de facto appointed position usually by the Politburo or the General Secretary himself.

Khabarovsk Krai is a federal subject of Russia. It is geographically located in the Far East region of the country and is a part of the Far Eastern Federal District. The administrative centre of the krai is the city of Khabarovsk, which is home to roughly half of the krai's population and the largest city in the Russian Far East. Soviet invasion of South Sakhalin, also called the Battle of Sakhalin, was the Soviet invasion of the Japanese portion of Sakhalin Island known as Karafuto Prefecture. The invasion was part of the Soviet–Japanese War, a massive campaign of the Second World War.
The Sakhalin Oblast Duma is the highest permanent and only legislative body of the Sakhalin Oblast. Together with the executive and judicial branches, the oblast's legislative assembly is vested with power to control the oblast's own affairs with moderate levels of autonomy from Moscow. All members are elected by public vote and are titled as deputies. The term of the deputies are currently 5 years long.
