Career

After working as a television director and a dialogue writer in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Salangai Durai made his directorial debut with Kathavarayan (2008) starring Karan and Vidisha. The film opened to negative reviews, with a critic noting "debutant director Salangai Durai may not have made a dream debut but this start is not disappointing." [1]

In early 2009, Durai began work on Kantharvan , a love story narrating the tale of a romance between a lorry driver and a college girl, starring Kathir - who had featured in a small role in Kathavarayan- and Honey Rose. [2] [3] The film had a delayed release in 2014. [4] [5] [6]

In 2019, Durai began work on a police procedural film titled EPCO 302 starring Kasthuri in the lead role, under his own production studio, South Indian Productions. The film eventually had a delayed release, owing to the coronavirus pandemic, in December 2021. [7] [8] Despite a low-profile release, the film garnered critical acclaim. [9] His next release, Kadathal, had a low-profile release in 2023.

Durai worked on a project titled Kandeepan Kanai in the early 2020s, starring newcomers, but the project did not have a theatrical release. [10]
