Salem Chandrasekharan (died 10 May 2021) was an Indian film producer and distributor. He produced high-budget Tamil films like Ghajini and Sabari under Sree Saravana Creations. [2] [3]

Business

Before venturing into film production, Chandrasekharan was a distributor and owner of a three-screen theatre in Salem named ARK Complex. [4] His first production was Sullan (2004) and later was supposed to produce Vetrimaaran's debut film Desiya Nedunchaalai with Dhanush, which was later shelved. [5] Despite the success of Ghajini (2005), his following ventures did not perform well. Owing to financial issues, he also had to pause work on the production of Karu Pazhaniappan's Asokamithran, also starring Dhanush. [6] His final project, Killadi (2015), released almost a decade after the film was shot, owing to financial problems. He later sold his theatres to Aascar Ravichandran. [7]

Death

Chandrasekharan died on 10 May 2021 due to COVID-19. [8]

Ghajini is a 2005 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film directed by A. R. Murugadoss and produced by Salem Chandrasekharan. The film stars Suriya and Asin in the lead with Pradeep Rawat as the main antagonist, along with Nayanthara and Riyaz Khan in the supporting roles. Harris Jayaraj composed the soundtrack and background music, while R. D. Rajasekhar and Anthony were the film's cinematographer and editor, respectively. In the film, Sanjay Ramaswamy (Suriya), once an eminent businessman, develops anterograde amnesia due to a head injury he got while attempting to save his fiancee Kalpana (Asin) from getting murdered by a gangster. After that, he sets out to avenge her murder with the aid of photographs from a Polaroid Instant camera and permanent tattoos on his body.

A remake of the Hindi film, Darling (2007), the film was initially launched in 2006 as Ram Gopal Varma's production, but was eventually sold to Storm Pictures after Varma, Venkat and Madhavan had gone through creative differences. During post-production, the unit experienced further difficulties after the producer had failed to pay technicians, and subsequently the film did not have a theatrical release.

Viswanathan Ravichandran is an Indian film producer and distributor in Chennai, India. He is the founder and owner of the production and distribution company, Aascar Films Pvt. Ltd, previously known as Oscar Films. Ravichandran started his venture in 1998 with the co-production of Kadhalukku Mariyadhai. He went on to produce many large-scale Tamil language films and distribute a number of English films across South India.

The film is a remake of the director's own Malayalam film Yatra. It was remade in to Telugu as Nireekshana. Killadi is a 2015 Indian Tamil-language action comedy film directed by A. Venkatesh, and produced by Salem Chandrasekharan. It stars Bharath and Nila, while Vivek and Roja play pivotal roles. The music was composed by Srikanth Deva. After beginning production in 2006, the film went through production troubles before releasing on 30 January 2015.

Ramana is an Indian film director, who has directed Tamil films. After making his debut in 2003 with the successful Thirumalai, he has gone on to make other ventures including Sullan and Aathi.

Pugazh (transl. Fame) is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language action thriller film written and directed by Manimaran and co-produced by Varun Manian. The film stars Jai and Surbhi, while Karunas, RJ Balaji, G. Marimuthu, and Piraisoodan play supporting roles. Vivek-Mervin composed the film's music. The film was released on 18 March 2016 and received mixed reviews from critics.
