The Great Belt Fixed Link is a multi-element fixed link crossing the Great Belt strait between the Danish islands of Zealand and Funen. It consists of a road suspension bridge and a railway tunnel between Zealand and the small island Sprogø in the middle of the Great Belt, and a box-girder bridge for both road and rail traffic between Sprogø and Funen. The total length is 18 kilometres (11 mi).
Øresund or Öresund, commonly known in English as the Sound, is a strait which forms the Danish–Swedish border, separating Zealand (Denmark) from Scania (Sweden). The strait has a length of 118 kilometres (73 mi); its width varies from 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) to 28 kilometres (17 mi). It is 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) wide at its narrowest point between Helsingør in Denmark and Helsingborg in Sweden.
The North Jutlandic Island, Vendsyssel-Thy, or Jutland north of the Limfjord is the northernmost part of Denmark and of Jutland. It is more common to refer to the three traditional districts Vendsyssel, Hanherred and Thy, however. The area has been intermittently a tied island, and during modern times was not surrounded by water until a storm of February 1825, which severed the region from the remainder of Jutland and caused a water connection between the North Sea and the western end of the fjord Limfjorden. Hence it is traditionally regarded as a part of Jutland rather than an island.
The Limfjord is a shallow part of the sea, located in Denmark where it has been regarded as a fjord ever since Viking times. However, it has inlets both from the North Sea and Kattegat, and hence separates the North Jutlandic Island from the rest of the Jutland Peninsula. The Limfjord extends from Thyborøn Channel on the North Sea to Hals on the Kattegat. It is approximately 180 kilometres long and of an irregular shape with numerous bays, narrowings, and islands, most notably Mors, and the smaller ones Fur, Venø, Jegindø, Egholm and Livø. It is deepest at Hvalpsund.
Mors or Morsø is a small island in the shallow sound called Limfjorden within Denmark's Jutland peninsula. It has an area of 367.3 km² and as of 1 January 2019, it had a population of 20,373. The main town on the island is called Nykøbing Mors. Geologically Mors is unique. Like the neighbouring island of Fur, it is known for its deposits of diatomite, locally known as 'moler' (mo-clay).
Until 1 January 2007 Sallingsund municipality was a municipality in the former Viborg County in the northwest of the Salling Peninsula, a part of the larger Jutland peninsula in northwest Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 99 km², and had a total population of 6,083 (2005). Its last mayor was Jens Jørn Justesen, a member of the Venstre political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Roslev.
Until January 1, 2007 Sundsøre municipality was a municipality in the former Viborg County on the Salling Peninsula, a part of the larger Jutland peninsula in northwest Denmark. The municipality included the island of Fur, and covered an area of 171 km². It had a total population of 6,464 (2005). Its last mayor is Flemming Eskildsen, a member of the Venstre political party.
Fur is a Danish island in the Limfjord - just north of the Salling peninsula with 767 inhabitants (2020). The biggest town on the island is Nederby with 565 inhabitants (2020). The island has ferry link over Fur Strait from Branden on the Salling side. Fur belongs to Skive Municipality and lies in the Central Denmark Region. It is located at 56°49′N09°01′E.
Until January 1, 2007 Spøttrup municipality was a municipality in the former Viborg County on the Salling Peninsula, a part of the larger Jutland peninsula in northwest Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 189 km², and had a total population of 7,902 (2005).
Morsø is a municipality in Region Nordjylland in northern Denmark. The municipality is located on the island of Morsø or Mors, an island in the Limfjord, the sound that separates the island of Vendsyssel-Thy from the rest of Jutland Peninsula. The municipality includes the smaller island of Agerø, and covers an area of 368 km². It has a total population of 22,091 (2008). Its mayor is Egon Pleidrup Poulsen, a member of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterne) political party.
The Sotra Bridge is a suspension bridge which crosses Knarreviksundet between Knarrevik in Øygarden Municipality and Drotningsvik on the mainland of Bergen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. It carries two road lanes and two narrow pedestrian paths of National Road 555, providing a fixed link for the archipelago of Sotra. The bridge is 1,236 metres (4,055 ft) long, has a main span of 468 metres (1,535 ft) and a clearance of 50 metres (160 ft). In 2007, it had an average 25,494 vehicles per day.
The Farø Bridges are two road bridges that connect the islands of Falster and Zealand in Denmark by way of the small island of Farø which is approximately mid-way across the Storstrømmen sound. A smaller bridge from Farø provides access to Bogø and thence to the island of Møn.
Vilsund Bridge (Vilsundbroen) is a bascule arch bridge that crosses Vilsund between Mors and Thy in northwestern Jutland, Denmark. The bridge is 382 metres long, and the longest span is 30 metres.
The Svendborg Sound Bridge (Svendborgsundbroen) is a bridge that crosses Svendborg Sound between the town of Svendborg on Fyn and Vindeby on the island of Tåsinge in Denmark. It is on the road to the island of Langeland. The bridge is 1220 metres long, the longest span is 90 metres, and the maximum clearance to the sea is 33 metres.
The Danish straits are the straits connecting the Baltic Sea to the North Sea through the Kattegat and Skagerrak. Historically, the Danish straits were internal waterways of Denmark; however, following territorial losses, Øresund and Fehmarn Belt are now shared with Sweden and Germany, while the Great Belt and the Little Belt have remained Danish territorial waters. The Copenhagen Convention of 1857 made all the Danish straits an international waterway.
The Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link is an immersed tunnel that is currently being constructed to connect the Danish island of Lolland with the German island of Fehmarn, crossing the 18-kilometre-wide (11 mi) Fehmarn Belt in the Baltic Sea. It will provide a direct link between northern Germany and Lolland, and from there to the Danish island of Zealand and Copenhagen, becoming the world's longest road and rail tunnel, potentially a major connection between central Europe and Scandinavia. It will shorten the travel time between Lolland and Fehmarn from 45 minutes by ferry to 10 minutes by car and seven minutes by train. The electrified high-speed rail will be capable of reaching 200 km/h (120 mph).
Salling is a peninsula located in the north-west of the larger Jutland peninsula in Denmark. The largest city in Salling is Skive, and smaller towns and villages includes Jebjerg, Roslev and Glyngøre.
Havneparken is a public park located directly on the waterfront in the district of Islands Brygge in central Copenhagen, Denmark. It is one of the most lively and popular places along the Copenhagen harbourfront. Located in a former dockland area, the park has retained a number of features from the area's industrial past, including disused railway tracks and an abandoned railway car used as an exhibition space, while am old ship hull turned upside-down serves as an idiosyncratic bandstand and pavilion. The park is also the location of the Islands Brygge Cultural Centre and the Islands Brygge Harbour Bath.
MF Mary is a Danish ferry sailing on the crossing over Hvalpsund between Hvalpsund-Sundsøre. It was built in 2006. The ferry can include up to 147 passengers and 30 passenger cars. The new ferry Mary, of the Sleipner-Fur type, was put into operation in March 2006. Motor and ferry service started in 1927 with the ferry MF Hvalpsund, this was the only rail ferry owned by a private railway company, which sailed to 1980. In 1980 a new ferry was introduced on the route, Hvalpsund 2, which had previously sailed for the Motorfolk's ferry crossing Sallingsund, between Pinen, Salling and Plagen, Mors.
Tangafjørður is the southern part of the strait separating the islands of Streymoy and Eysturoy in the Faroe Islands. The northern part of the strait between is named Sundini.
