Sam Leal is a former men's basketball player and current head coach at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. [1]

Playing career

Sam Leal played college basketball at UMF in Farmington, Maine. In his junior campaign the Beavers would win the North Atlantic Conference regular season championship and finish with an overall record of 21–6. In his final year at UMF, the beavers would end their season with an overtime loss to Husson in the NAC tournament championship game. [2]

Coaching career

Maine–Farmington

Leal began is head coaching career at his alma mater, University of Maine at Farmington. [3] Sam spent 4 seasons at the helm, recording a 53–25 overall record. Following the 2022–2023 season, Leal was named NAC coach of the year after posting a 19–8 overall record, 13–1 in conference play, earning them the #1 seed in the conference tournament. [4] They would fall in the conference championship game to SUNY-Delhi.

Wartburg College

Sam Leal was announced as the 13th head men's basketball coach in Wartburg history on May 1, 2024. [5] He replaced longtime head coach Dick Peth.

David Pasiak is currently the head men's basketball coach and sports information director at Vermont State University Lyndon. He was named to those positions in September, 2017. Previously he was the head men's basketball coach at Onondaga Community College from August 2000 through December, 2015. He had a career record of 264–198 in 15+ seasons at OCC and 283–236 overall in 17+ seasons at the NJCAA level. Pasiak is actively involved in Coaches vs. Cancer. In his seventh season as head coach at OCC, he earned his 150th victory at the NJCAA level and in the process became Onondaga's all-time winningest coach. He also served as Onondaga's interim athletic director from November 2009 to August 2011, and served as associate athletic director until leaving the college in 2015. He was named Mid-State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2002, 2003 and 2008. He was the NJCAA Region III Division III Coach of the Year in 2003. Pasiak guided his 2006–2007 team to the school's first Mid-State Athletic Conference championship in 15 years.

John W. Winkin Jr. was an American baseball coach, scout, broadcaster, journalist and collegiate athletics administrator. Winkin led the University of Maine Black Bears baseball team to six College World Series berths in an 11-year span. In 2007, at age 87, he was the oldest active head coach in any collegiate sport at any NCAA level. In all, 92 of his former players wound up signing professional baseball contracts. Dick Peth is a former men's basketball player and coach. In April 2024, Peth announced his retirement from Wartburg College after 27 seasons at the helm. He is an alumnus of the University of Iowa, 1979.

Joel Holst is a former American baseball coach, and was the former head baseball coach of the Wartburg Knights. Holst played college baseball and college football at Coe College from 1981 to 1985. He then served as the head coach at West Delaware high school in Manchester, Iowa before making a stop at Northwest Missouri State as an assistant. He got his first head coaching job at Loras College before arriving at Wartburg College in 1996.

Jamie Mueller is an American, former collegiate softball second baseman and current head coach at Wartburg College. She played college softball at Aurora.
