Sam Ivar Erland Weihagen (born August 1950)[ citation needed ] is the former interim Chief Executive Officer of Thomas Cook Group. He is a Swedish national.

Thomas Cook Group plc is a British global travel company. It was formed on 19 June 2007 by the merger of Thomas Cook AG, itself the successor to Thomas Cook & Son, and MyTravel Group plc. The group owns a number of tour operators, as well as airlines based in the United Kingdom, Germany, Scandinavia and Balearics. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange.

Early life

He was born in Sävsjö.

He graduated from the University of Gothenburg's School of Economics (Göteborgs Universitet), with an MBA. [1]

MyTravel

He joined MyTravel Northern Europe in 1975.

At MyTravel he was Commercial Director, where he was responsible for purchasing and flight planning. He became a Director of MyTravel Group in December 2004.

MyTravel Group plc was a package holiday company based in the United Kingdom. The group included brands such as Airtours, Aspro, Cresta, Direct Holidays, Escapades, Manos and Panorama in the UK and Ireland, Sunquest Vacations and ALBA Tours in North America, and Ving, Always, Tjæreborg, Spies, Skibby, MyTravel Tango, Bridge and Saga Solreiser in Scandinavia. The company included an in-house airline, MyTravel Airways, however, following the merger of MyTravel and Thomas Cook AG on 19 June 2007, these brands passed to the new combined Thomas Cook Group plc.

Thomas Cook

He replaced Manny Fontenla-Novoa as Chief Executive of the Thomas Cook Group on 3 August 2011. He had been deputy chief executive since 6 November 2009.

Manny Fontenla-Novoa is a Spanish-British businessman, the former chief executive of Thomas Cook Group from 2003 until his resignation in August 2011. He is president at Logitravel group since October 2018.

He was Chief Executive of Thomas Cook's (initially MyTravel) Northern Division since 2001, until replaced on 22 December 2010 by Lars Lofgren. Hagen had been planning on retiring in 2011.

At Thomas Cook he earns £496,000. He has worked in the travel industry for 33 years. He has been Chairman of the Tour Operating Federation of Sweden. He commutes every week from Stockholm to London (Brettenham House at Lancaster Place). [2] Brettenham House is also the headquarters of the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC).

Lancaster Place

Lancaster Place is a short section of road in central London, which connects Waterloo Bridge to the major junction with the Aldwych and Strand. It is completely bisected by the northbound-only Strand Underpass which dives below the Aldwych enabling Kingsway-bound traffic to skip the "fiveways" junction. Brettenham House and the more famous Somerset House front onto the West and East sides of Lancaster Place respectively.

In Sweden he lived in Sigtuna. His partner is Eva, and they have a son and daughter.
