Sami Wahlsten (born November 25, 1967) is a Finnish former professional ice hockey player who primarily played in the Finnish Liiga. [1] Wahlsten was drafted in the seventh round of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers, but he never played professionally in North America. [2] He spent most of his professional career in Finland, playing nine seasons in the Liiga with TPS, Jokerit, and Ilves. [1] [2] He is the son of Juhani Wahlsten and brother of Jali Wahlsten. [1]

He was drafted in the fourth round, 106th overall, by the Anaheim Ducks at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, and played in NHL for the Anaheim Ducks, New Jersey Devils, Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars. He previously played in his native Finland for JYP, where he won the 2012 SM-liiga Championship. In 2023, Vatanen won the Swiss NL championship with Genève-Servette, and the Champions Hockey League in 2024.
