Samuel Segun Okoya (born 20 October 1958, in Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria) is an academic in applied mathematics at Obafemi Awolowo University. He is the editor-in-chief of the Journal and Notices of the Nigerian Mathematical Society [3] and the First Occupier of Pastor E.A Adeboye Outstanding Professor of Mathematics (Endowed Professorial Chair) University of Lagos. [4] He is the alumnus to attain the position of professor and head of the Mathematics Department at Obafemi Awolowo University.[ citation needed ]

Education

Okoya had his entire tertiary education at Obafemi Awolowo University. He graduated with his bachelor's degree in 1983, earned his master's degree in 1986 and Ph.D. in 1989. His PhD dissertation, supervised by Reuben O. Ayeni, was titled "A Mathematical Model for Explosions with Chain Branching and Chain Breaking Kinetics". [5] He is a Fellow of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria and Nigerian Mathematical Society. He regularly visits the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics, The World Academy of Sciences and International Mathematical Union.[ citation needed ]

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal university in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, which was led by Samuel Ladoke Akintola. It was renamed "Obafemi Awolowo University" on 12 May 1987, so by the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida led military administration, in honour of Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), the first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, who initially thought of the idea of establishing the university.

Cyril Agodi Onwumechili was a Nigerian physicist, academic administrator, and professor of geophysics at the University of Ibadan and later University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He was the fourth Vice Chancellor of the University of Ife from January 1979 to December 1982 and the former President/Vice Chancellor of the Anambra State University of Technology, Enugu, Nigeria, from January 1983 to December 1986. Iruka Okeke is a Nigerian Pharmaceutical Microbiologist currently holding the position of professor at the College of Medicine,University of Ibadan in Nigeria. Iruka's career is the study neglected enteric bacteria such as E. coli, known for their potential to cause fatal bloodstream and diarrheal infections. She advocates for the utilization of Genomics approaches to enhance surveillance and gain a better understanding of pathogen virulence. Iruka's research interests extend to combating antimicrobial resistance and investigating bacterial pathogenesis, epidemiology, and antimicrobial resistance of enteric bacteria. Iruka's contributions to the field have earned her recognition as a fellow of esteemed institutions such as the Nigerian Academy of Sciences, and African Academy of Sciences.[1]
