Angelo State University is a public university in San Angelo, Texas. It was founded in 1928 as San Angelo College. It gained university status and awarded its first baccalaureate degrees in 1967 and graduate degrees in 1969, the same year it took on its current name. It offers over 100 undergraduate programs and 34 graduate programs. It is the second-largest campus in the Texas Tech University System.
Friday Night Lights is a 2004 American sports drama film directed by Peter Berg. Bissinger, followed the story of the 1988 Permian High School Panthers football team as they made a run towards the state championship. The film won the Best Sports Movie ESPY Award and was ranked number 37 on Entertainment Weekly's list of the Best High School Movies.
United League Baseball was an independent baseball league that operated in Texas. The league operated from 2006 to 2009. The league then temporarily merged with the Northern League and the Golden Baseball League to form the North American League from 2011–2012. However, after the North American League folded at the end of the 2012 season, ULB was reformed. It dissolved for a second time in January 2015.
The San Angelo Stampede Express was a professional indoor football team from San Angelo, Texas owned by Darlene Jones. They were announced as a charter member of the Lone Star Football League but folded before play began in 2012. They played their home games in the Foster Communications Coliseum. They changed their name from the San Angelo Stampede for the 2006 season.
The El Paso Rumble were a charter member of the original Intense Football League of 2004. They played at the El Paso County Coliseum in El Paso, Texas. They only played for one year. They were winless at 0-16. The team nearly earned their only win in San Angelo, Texas against the San Angelo Stampede, but on the last play of the game, a high snap caused the game-winning field goal attempt to be wide right and the Rumble lost 23-22.
Grant Garland Teaff is a former American football player and coach. He served as the head coach at McMurry University (1960–1965), Angelo State University (1969–1971), and Baylor University (1972–1992), compiling a career college football record of 170–151–8. In his 21 seasons as head coach of the Baylor Bears football team, Teaff's teams won two Southwest Conference titles and appeared in eight bowl games. His 128 wins are the most of any coach in the history of the program. Teaff was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 2001.
Central High School is a public, coeducational secondary school in San Angelo, Texas. It is part of the San Angelo Independent School District. The school serves grades 10-12, while a freshman campus serves grade 9. Its mascot is the Bobcat. The school serves much of San Angelo and the unincorporated community of Tankersley.

The San Angelo Outlaws are a defunct American minor professional ice hockey team that played in the Western Professional Hockey League from 1997 to 2001 and the Central Hockey League in the 2001–02 season. They were based in San Angelo, Texas and played their home games out of the San Angelo Coliseum. The WPHL ceased operations in 2001 and the Central Hockey League absorbed the remaining ten WPHL teams, including the Outlaws. One year later, the team was renamed to the San Angelo Saints.

The Bandits began play in 2013 as an expansion team in the LSFL. They became members of the CIF when the LSFL and Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) merged at the conclusion of the 2014 season. The Bandits played their home games at the Foster Communications Coliseum. The team folded following the 2016 season and were replaced by the expansion CenTex Cavalry.
Champions Indoor Football (CIF) is a professional indoor American football league created in 2014 out of the merger between the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) and Lone Star Football League (LSFL), plus one team from the Indoor Football League and two expansion teams. Players are paid $75 – $300 per game before taxes with no other benefits.
The 2010 San Angelo Stampede Express season was the team's seventh season as a professional indoor football franchise and second in the Indoor Football League (IFL). One of twenty-five teams that competed in the IFL for the 2010 season, the San Angelo, Texas-based San Angelo Stampede Express were members of the Lonestar East Division of the Intense Conference.
The 1997 UC Davis football team represented the University of California, Davis in the 1997 NCAA Division II football season. They played as a Division II independent in 1997. They would stay an independent until 2004 when they became a charter member of the Great West Conference (GWC).
