The San Francisco Crosstown Trail is a 17-mile trail that starts in Candlestick Point State Recreation Area and ends at Lands End Lookout, in San Francisco, California.
The trail runs diagonally through the city, though not in a straight line, is split into five segments, and has approximately 2,600 feet of elevation gain. The full trail opened June 2, 2019, though various sections were available to hike prior to that date. [1] [2] [3]
The idea for the trail, which traverses through National, State, and city parks, began in 2014. [4] [5]
In 2024, the same organization that created the Crosstown Trail added a second 15-mile trail that begins at Fort Funston and ends at Pier 23. [6] [7]
In September 2025, the organization announced a 38-mile new route around the full perimeter of the city. [8] [9]
