Ariel Maximiliano Richeze Araquistain is an Argentine professional cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam UAE Team Emirates. Richeze won the silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games. His brothers Roberto, Mauro and Adrián are also cyclists.
Edgardo Simón is an Argentine professional track and road bicycle racer. He rides for the Ironage-Colner squad, having previously competed for the Real Cycling Team on the UCI America Tour. The 2013 Tour de San Luis was the 7th edition of the Tour de San Luis stage race. It was part of the 2012–2013 UCI America Tour, and took place between 21 and 27 January 2013. The race was won by Daniel Díaz of the San Luis Somos Todos squad, which enjoyed a successful event, as their riders Emmanuel Guevara and Leandro Messineo took the mountains classification and the sprints classification, respectively. The youth classification went to Alejandro Sivori of the Argentine National team and the team classification went to BMC Racing Team.

Fernando Gaviria Rendón is a Colombian professional road and track racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam UAE Team Emirates. He is well known as a sprinter. Riding for the Colombian national cycling team, Gaviria came to international attention at the 2015 Tour de San Luis, where he beat former world champion Mark Cavendish in two sprint finishes. His first major Grand Tour wins came at the 2017 Giro d'Italia. He is the brother of track cyclist Juliana Gaviria. His nickname is "Quetzal splendente", from the brightful and colourful South American bird Quetzal. Its colours recall his world championship titles, his Colombia and "la maglia Ciclamino" won at Giro d'Italia.

The race was used by many European-based riders as the beginning of their 2016 road seasons. It was rated as a 2.1 event as part of the 2016 UCI America Tour. The defending champion is the Argentine cyclist Daniel Díaz.

The 2018 Vuelta a San Juan was a road cycling stage race that took place in the San Juan Province of Argentina between 21 and 28 January 2018. The race was rated as a 2.1 event as part of the 2018 UCI America Tour, and was the 36th edition of the Vuelta a San Juan. Initially, the race was won by Gonzalo Najar, who was later disqualified for a failed doping test. The result was then given to the rider originally in second place, Óscar Sevilla.
