Sana Jamali is a Pakistani politician who has been a Member of the Senate of Pakistan, since March 2018.

Political career

Jamali ran for the seat of the Senate of Pakistan as an independent candidate on a reserved seat for women from Balochistan in 2015 Pakistani Senate election, [2] [3] but was unsuccessful. [4] [5]

Jamali was elected to the Senate as an independent candidate on reserved seat for women from Balochistan in 2018 Pakistani Senate election. [6] [7] She took oath as Senator on 12 March 2018. [8]

Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali served as the 9th Chief Minister of Balochistan from 13 August 1998 till 12 October 1999 when Army Chief General Pervaiz Mushraf over took the Government. He served two terms as Deputy Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan from March 2006 to March 2012. Jan Mohammad Jamali contested in the 2013 elections from PB25 and won on the seat of PML N, He again contested from PB14 and won on the seat of BAP. He is a well-known personality throughout Balochistan.

Kamran Michael is a Pakistani politician who served as Minister for Statistics, in Abbasi cabinet from August 2017 to May 2018. He previously served as the Minister for Human Rights in the third Sharif ministry from 2013 to 2017. A member of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), Michael held the cabinet portfolio of Minister for Ports and Shipping from 2013 to 2016.

Kalsoom Parveen Urdu: کلثوم پروین was a Pakistani politician who served as a member of the Senate from March 2003 until her death on 21 December 2020.

The triennial Senate Electionsof Pakistan were held on 3 March 2018 to replace 52 retiring senators - half of the Senate's strength - with the winning candidates serving six-year terms. Overall, Pakistan Muslim League (N) came out as the largest party, followed by the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. The results of these elections were steeped in controversy due to rampant allegations of horse trading and vote-buying, which lead to the Prime Minister and opposition leader Imran Khan calling for reforms. Prior to this election, PML (N) candidates were declared as independents by the Election Commission of Pakistan owing to a Supreme Court judgment.

Provincial elections were held in the Pakistani province of Balochistan on 25 July 2018. Newly formed Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) emerged as the largest party by wining 24 seats followed by Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal who won 10 seats. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf won 7 seats for the very first time.
