Sandeep Singh (born 20 January 1996) is an Indian sport shooter from Punjab. [1] He competes in the 10m air rifle discipline. He qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in both the individual 10m air rifle and mixed events. [2]

Early life and education

Singh was born in Behbal Khurd village, near Faridkot. [3] He began as a cross-country athlete as he wanted to appear for the army recruitment test. His father, Baljinder Singh is a labourer. He is a naib subedar in the Indian Army. He joined the Sikh Light Infantry in 2014 as a sepoy. [2]

Career

Singh caught the eye with high scores in 2023. He was part of the Indian mixed team in the Rio de Janeiro World Cup in September 2023, where he was ranked 5th. In 2024, he took part in the World Cup events at Cairo, Munich and Granada. He also took part in the Asian Championships at Jakarta. [1]

He qualified for the Paris Olympics at the Indian Olympic selection trials held at the Madhya Pradesh shooting range in Bhopal in May 2024 and stood first. He beat Olympic quota winner Arjun Babuta and Rudranksh Patil, a world champion. Both of them had an additional point but could not beat the scores of Singh. [2] [4] [5]

Seonaid McIntosh is a British sports shooter who became the World Champion at the 2018 ISSF World Shooting Championships in the 50m Prone Rifle event. In 2019 she became Britain's most successful female rifle shooter of all time, winning five World Cup medals. She also became the first British Woman to rank World #1 for the 50m Rifle Three Position event and became European Champion in the 300m Rifle Prone event with an equal World Record score.

Arjun Babuta is an Indian sport shooter. He competes in the 10 meter air rifle events and has been a part of the Indian national shooting team since 2017.

Manu Bhaker is an Indian sport shooter and Olympic medalist. She won two bronze medals at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Subsequently, she earned another bronze medal in the mixed 10 metre air pistol team event, becoming the first Indian woman to win two medals in a single Olympics.

Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil, also known as Rudrankkash Balasaheb Patil, is an Indian sport shooter. He won medals at the Shooting World Cup. In December 2022, he ranked first in 10m air rifle in ISSF rankings. He won an Olympic quota berth for India in Men's 10m air rifle for the Paris Olympics.

Ashi Chouksey is an Indian sport shooter. She won the silver medal in women's 10 metre air rifle team in the 2022 Asian Games.

Divya Thadigol Subbaraju is an Indian sport shooter from Karnataka. She competes in the ISSF 10 meter air pistol discipline. She became the National Champion in 10m Air Pistol 2022. She was part of the Indian shooting team at the Asian Games, Hangzhou, China and won 2 Silver medals.

Varun Tomar is an Indian sport shooter. He bagged an Olympic quota berth for the Paris Olympics in the 10m Air Pistol event by winning a gold medal at the Asian Olympic Qualifiers on 8 January 2024 at Jakarta.

Raiza Dhillon is an Indian sport shooter. She secured an Olympic quota berth for the Paris Olympics in the women's skeet event by winning a gold medal at the Asian Shotgun Championships, an Asian Olympic qualifier event on 20 January 2024 at Kuwait City. She became the first Indian woman to potentially qualify for an Olympic skeet event. It also brought the Indian Olympic quota count to 19. The quota berth won by a shooter is a berth for the country and the Federation, which can nominate any shooter for Olympics, as per set criteria.
