Sandra Godley OBE [1] is a British singer-songwriter, broadcaster, and philanthropist known for her contributions to contemporary gospel, soul music, and community initiatives. She has earned critical acclaim and numerous awards for her musical talent and charitable work, including a MOBO Award nomination [2] and recognition in the form of an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). [3]
Godley was born in Bristol, England, to Jamaican parents, Lincoln and Linneth Gordon. Growing up in a musical household, she developed a passion for music at a young age, often singing in church and participating in community events. These early experiences shaped her career and her dedication to uplifting others through music. Sandra graduated from Nottingham Trent University in Sept 2013 with a BA (Hons) in Leadership and Management. [4]
Godley has released multiple albums, with her record Miracle earning her a MOBO Award nomination for Best Gospel Act in 2014. [5] Her music spans genres such as gospel, soul, R&B, and disco, showcasing her versatility as an artist. Godley has performed at major venues and events, including the Godiva Festival, [6] where her performances have drawn significant acclaim. In addition to her musical career, she is a broadcaster who has hosted programs on networks such as BBC Radio 4, [7] TBN UK, [8] BBC CWR local radio shows, [9] and Mercy Ships. [10] She hosted the historic Coventry City of Culture Trust celebratory event [11] at FarGo Village, Coventry.
Godley is deeply committed to community service and philanthropy. In 2018, she brought together a choir of individuals with physical and mental challenges to record "The Big Love Song," a wedding gift for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. [12] The initiative received widespread media attention for its message of unity and inclusion. [13]
She serves as a Patron of Highly Sprung Performance, [14] the UK's leading physical theatre company and was an ambassador for Feed the Hungry, an organisation dedicated to feeding the poor and hungry around the world. [15]
