Sandra Smolen Jaffe (March 10, 1938 - December 27, 2021) co-owned and operated Preservation Hall in New Orleans. [1] She established Preservation Hall with her husband Allan Jaffe in 1961. [2] [3] In 2006 she accepted a National Medal of Arts award on behalf of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. [4] Her son Ben Jaffe is the band leader of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. [5]

Early life

Jaffee was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [1] She graduated from Harcum College. [1] She married Allan Jaffee in 1960 and they had two sons. [1]
