Sandra Murchison

Sandra Murchison is a collegiate art professor, and a multimedia artist working predominantly in printmaking and encaustic paintings. Originally from New Jersey, Murchison received her BFA from Alfred University and her MFA from Louisiana State University. [1] Currently, Murchison is the director of the School of Art and Design at Eastern Michigan University, and before that, worked as Professor of Art at Millsaps College where she taught book arts, printmaking, painting and drawing. [2] Murchison is represented by Guy Lyman Fine Arts Gallery in New Orleans. Murchison serves as the Vice President of Internal Affairs to SGC International, a non-profit organization that supports print artists. [1]

Recognitions and exhibitions

Murchison has receiving numerous awards including the 2014 HEADWAE Faculty Award for Millsaps College, 2013 Millsaps College Distinguished Professor Award, 2011 Mississippi Humanities Council Humanities Teacher Award for Millsaps College and 2011 Richard A. Smith Award for Excellence in Scholarship or Creative Work at Millsaps College. In 2015, she was nominated for a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant for Painters and Sculptors. Murchison's work has been shown in over 60 national and international juried exhibitions, and her work is featured in Contemporary American Printmakers. She has had solo exhibitions at the following institutions: University of the Arts and Mansfield University, both in Pennsylvania, the Greater Jackson Arts Council, Loyola University New Orleans, Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, and Delta State University, Millsaps College, and the Cottonlandia Museum, all in Mississippi. Lowery Stokes Sims is an American art historian and curator of modern and contemporary art known for her expertise in the work of African, African American, Latinx, Native and Asian American artists such as Wifredo Lam, Fritz Scholder, Romare Bearden, Joyce J. Scott and others. She served on the curatorial staff of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and the Museum of Arts and Design. She has frequently served as a guest curator, lectured internationally and published extensively, and has received many public appointments. Sims was featured in the 2010 documentary film !Women Art Revolution.

Judy Pfaff is an American artist known mainly for installation art and sculptures, though she also produces paintings and prints. Pfaff has received numerous awards for her work, including a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellowship in 2004 and grants from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation (1983) and the National Endowment for the Arts. Major exhibitions of her work have been held at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, the Denver Art Museum and Saint Louis Art Museum. Jyotindra Manshankar Bhatt, better known as Jyoti Bhatt, is an Indian artist best known for his modernist work in painting and printmaking and also his photographic documentation of rural Indian culture. He studied painting under N. S. Bendre and K.G. Subramanyan at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Maharaja Sayajirao University (M.S.U.), Baroda. Later he studied fresco and mural painting at Banasthali Vidyapith in Rajasthan, and in the early 1960s went on to study at the Academia di Belle Arti in Naples, Italy, as well the Pratt Institute in New York. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2019 and elected as a Fellow of the Lalit Kala Akademi in 2022.

Landon Mackenzie is a Canadian artist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. She is nationally known for her large-format paintings and her contribution as a professor at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design.

Primarily working in oil paint, her style uses loose, improvisational brush strokes, and a limited color palette.
