Sandra Suubi (born 1990) is a Ugandan gospel musician and visual artist. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Early years and education

Suubi was born in Kampala, Uganda in 1990. She had her primary education at Greenhill Academy and her secondary education Gayaza High School, both in Kampala. [6] She attended the Makerere University where she acquired a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Art. In January 2018, she graduated from the same University with a master's degree in Fine Arts. [7] [8] [1] [2]

Career

While in secondary school, Suubi was part of the school's chapel choir. She began her career as a musician in 2011 when she joined a girl group called Xabu under the direction of First Love. With the group, she started to perform at different events while at the university. In 2015, the group split, so she joined the Airtel Trace Music competition and won. She went ahead to represent Uganda in the East African category at the International level of the competition. [9] She released her debut album in 2016 which features two singles, Togwamu Suubi and Nsiimye. [4] [10] Her song, Togwamu Subi was featured as the sound track for the award winning film Veronica’s Wish in 2018. She released her second album in 2018 and this album features songs like Onjagande nyo, Kingdom come,Heaven and Jangu Tuzine. [9] [11]

Aside music, Suubi works as an eco-artist. She recycles plastic waste to create installations, stage back drops, jewelry and home decorations. Her art work has featured in different Kampala art festivals like the Bayimba 2013 back drop, the laba 2014 Headphones, Bodaboda Helmet and the concept of the bird during the Kampala art. [4] [11]

Alex Julius Kwesigabo, better known by his stage name Flex D'Paper, is a Ugandan rapper and songwriter born and raised in Kampala. Sanyu has met people like President Yoweri Museveni while singing at the I am a Ugandan album premier. She has shared a stage with top African stars like Habib Koite, Navio, Joanita Kawalya of Afrigo Band, and Juliana Kanyomozi. and many other African stars.

Sandra Nankoma, previously known as Sandy Soul, is a Ugandan recording artist, singer-songwriter, composer, actor and performer of Afro-soul and jazz music. She is well known for her single Kaddugala from her debut album Ye'nze for which she won an award for Best Female Artist in African Inspirational Music at AFRIMA Awards in 2018.

Florence Nakimbugwe Nsubuga, but commonly known as Florence Nsubuga, is a Ugandan businesswoman and corporate executive, who since 2012, serves as the chief operating officer (COO) of Umeme Limited, the largest electricity distribution company in Uganda, whose stock trades of the Uganda Securities Exchange and on the Nairobi Stock Exchange. Effective March 2015, she concurrently serves as a member of the board of directors of Umeme.

Josephine Karungi, is a Ugandan journalist and television personality who works as a media and communications consultant at the World Bank Uganda, based at their offices in Kampala, Uganda's capital city. Before that, from 1 October 2018 until 30 March 2021, she served as Head of News, at NTV Uganda, in acting capacity. In that role, she reported directly to the general manager, Editorial, Daniel Kalinaki.

Theresa Musoke is a Ugandan-Kenyan painter and visual artist most well known for her experimentational and expressive depictions of Kenyan wildlife and women's experiences in African. She is most widely known for her work in painting and printmaking, but also uses batik, barkcloth, acrylic, and dye, among other materials in her works, even venturing to sculpture on occasion. Musoke describes her works as "semi-abstract" and incorporates themes such as her multinational heritage, African identity as a whole, and feminist themes including domestic roles, motherhood and family planning into her pieces. Musoke's art reflects the turbulent political crisis in which she grew up, representing a diverse mix of systems, media, and styles, both traditional and contemporary, in addition to "decades of change from self-taught traditions to Western art school training, emerging as an art form that celebrates a rich historical and cultural heritage that cannot be understood solely in terms of elements and principles of art and design".

Namubiru Rose Kirumira. is a Ugandan sculptor and senior lecturer at the Margaret Trowell School of Industrial and Fine Arts (MTSIFA), Department of Visual Arts, College of Engineering Design Art and Technology, at Makerere University. She specializes in human form, sculpted wood, clay and concrete monumental sculptures.
