Pinto was born to school teacher Judy Pinto and textile marketing executive Antony Vincent Pinto. Pinto studied at Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Egmore, Chennai. He appeared as the compere for his school play, Who Killed Cock Robin?. He was the Troop Commander of the Road Safety Patrol and was adjudged the Best Outgoing Student in 1991. [1] [2]
A student of History and Politics at Loyola College, Chennai, Pinto founded and edited a students' magazine in college, the Loyola Herald and was the President of the Loyola Debating Society. He contributed to a column called Campus Beat in the Indian Express . He won the Gold Medal and the "Most Outstanding Student of the year" award in 1994. [3]
While at Loyola, Pinto completed a twinning course on Creative Writing through the college's tie-up with Cornell University. Pinto won the national debating championship representing the Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Chennai, where he completed his law degree in 1997. Pinto joined NDTV New Delhi Television in February 1998 as the Tamil Nadu correspondent for the 24 hour Star News Channel. He did live reports, news bulletins, and election special shows. Pinto became the Bureau Chief of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry of NDTV 24x7 in 2006. Pinto went on deputation to editorially head a new sister channel NDTV Hindu as its Executive Editor (Consultant-English News). At NDTV Hindu, Pinto spearheaded the live telecast of 17 news bulletins daily.[ citation needed ]
Pinto left NDTV Hindu in January 2012, took a sabbatical for a few months and returned to NDTV 24x7 as the Resident Editor (Consultant) for Tamil Nadu. Pinto quit NDTV in September 2012.[ citation needed ]
Pinto was conferred the Vocational Excellence Award for his contribution to the Indian Media by the Rotary Club of Madras North in 2012. [9] [10]
Pinto used to host shows on All India Radio even as a school and college student. In 2009, Pinto conceptualised and anchored a daily debate show on ChennaiLive 104.8 FM. This was followed by other shows like 'Voice of Chennai' [11] [12] [13] and 'You're Hired' [14] (a career guidance show) and ‘Welcome Home’, a show on real estate and fine living.
Pinto has been writing a weekly legal column "Justice For ALL" [15] [16] in the Deccan Chronicle and monthly columns in Ritz Newspaper on the bureaucracy "Corridors of Power" [17] and social issues "point Blank". [18]
Pinto formerly wrote a national fortnightly column on the social media for The Hindu since 2012 [19] and a column on political issues for Tehelka . [20]

The 2013 Anti–Sri Lanka protests are a series of student protests and agitations initiated by the Students Federation for Freedom of Tamil Eelam in Tamil Nadu, India, against war crimes committed against Sri Lankan Tamil people by Sri Lankan army during the Eelam War IV. The protesters demanded that the Government of India vote in support of a United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution censuring the Government of Sri Lanka for war crimes. Some radical groups even demanded the prosecution of the President of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapakse for his role in the alleged genocide of Sri Lankan Tamils. Apart from college students, doctors, film personalities and employees of IT companies also participated in the protests.

Chennai City Football Club was an Indian professional football club based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The club predominantly competed in the I-League, which was then highest division of Indian football league system. They have also appeared in the Chennai Football League. Established in 1946 as Nethaji Sports Club, Chennai City spent its grand majority of history by competing in state leagues and knock-out tournaments until entering the national stage in 2016.
The 2017 pro-jallikattu protests, also known as the pro-jallikattu movement, were leaderless apolitical youth protests which took place in January 2017 in large groups in several locations across the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Some sporadic smaller protests also took place across India as well as overseas. The chief motivation of the protest was against the Supreme Court's order to ban jallikattu, a traditional Tamil bull taming sport, which is held during Pongal, a harvest festival in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The sport is conducted annually on the second day of the Tamil month Thai. The sport was banned by the Supreme Court in a decision citing cruelty to animals based on a lawsuit filed by the animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), which asserted that it violates the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (PCA).
Gopi Shankar Madurai is an Indian equal rights and Indigenous rights activist. Shankar was one of the youngest, and the first openly intersex and genderqueer statutory authority and one of the candidates to contest in 2016 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election. Shankar is also the founder of Srishti Madurai Student Volunteer Collective. Shankar's work inspired the Madras High Court to direct the Government of Tamil Nadu to order a ban on forced sex-selective surgeries on intersex infants. In December 2017, Shankar was elected to the executive board of ILGA Asia. In August 2020, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment appointed Shankar as the South Regional representative in the National Council for Transgender Persons.
