Popular venues close to Sankt Eriksplan include Filadelfiakyrkan ('the Philadelphia Church') which offers frequent concerts. Nearby is the riverside park of Karlberg Palace (Karlbergs slott) which was built in 1630. It is in sight of the Military Academy Karlberg which was inaugurated in 1792. Sankt Eriksplan is a popular and expensive residential area, with apartment prices being among the most expensive in Stockholm.

It is entirely underground, and is located in the district of Vasastaden, which is in the borough of Norrmalm in central Stockholm. One ticket hall is under Sankt Eriksplan itself, and the other under the intersection of Torsgatan and Sankt Eriksgatan. Both ticket halls are linked to the surface by entrance pavilions containing stairs and lifts. The distance to Slussen is 4.1 km (2.5 mi).

Tapetskolan vid Karlberg or Tapetväfveriet vid Karlbergs slott, also called Karlbergsfabriken, was a Swedish orphanage and a school for girls. It was founded by Ulrika Eleonora of Denmark, Queen Consort of King Charles XI of Sweden. She founded a large number of charitable institutions which were paid by her personally. The handicrafts school was situated at the royal summer residence Karlberg Palace which King Charles XI had purchased in 1688.
