The Santa Barbara Pastoral Region is a pastoral region of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in the Roman Catholic Church. It covers Santa Barbara and Ventura counties in the State of California, an area with a population in excess of 1.2 million. [1] [2] The region has 37 parishes, six high schools, 18 elementary schools, four hospitals, and four Spanish missions, including Mission Santa Barbara and Mission San Buenaventura. The region was created in 1986 as part of a plan by Los Angeles Archbishop Roger Mahony to make church leaders more accessible by dividing the sprawling Los Angeles Archdiocese into five pastoral regions. The Santa Barbara Pastoral Region has been governed by three bishops since its foundation. [2] The first was Patrick Ziemann, who served from 1986 until 1992, [4] [5] and later became involved in sexual and financial scandals. [6] He was followed by Thomas J. Curry who ordained as the region's bishop in 1994, [7] stepping down from the post in 2013 amid allegations that concealed sexual crimes perpetrated by other priests. [8] The third is Robert E. Barron who held the position from 2015 to July, 2022. [1] [9]

The Episcopal Vicariate is currently vacant, following the death of Bishop David G. O'Connell in 2023.

VCTC Intercity is a public transit agency providing bus service in Ventura County, California. It provides an intercity bus service between the cities of Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Moorpark, Santa Paula, and Fillmore in Ventura County, and to communities in neighboring Los Angeles and Santa Barbara counties. Padre Serra Parish is a large Catholic church in Camarillo, California, established in 1988 after the beatification of Father Junípero Serra. For its first seven years, Padre Serra's parish celebrated Mass in a room at St. John's Seminary. In July 1995, a modern 16,300-square foot church, without pews or kneelers, and with a centrally located altar, was opened. As of 1995, the parish had more than 5,000 members. In 2007, Padre Serra Church became the home parish of the first married Catholic priest in the Los Angeles Archdiocese.

Our Lady Queen of Angels Seminary (OLQA) was the Junior or Minor Seminary for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles from its founding in 1953 until its closure in 1995. It was located in Mission Hills, California, adjacent to Mission San Fernando Rey de España. The Vincentian Fathers were primarily responsible for staffing the school until 1973 when it was staffed by priests of the Los Angeles Archdiocese. Following closure, the western school campus became the home of Bishop Alemany High School, whose campus was severely damaged in the 1994 Northridge earthquake.
