Santa Paws is a book series that was first published in 1996. The first books were written by Nicholas Edwards; the newer books are written by Kris Edwards. To date, there have been nine books. Books from the series are in over 500 libraries, according to WorldCat. [1]
The books are about a German Shepherd mix dog named Santa Paws who rescues people who need help. The series takes place in Oceanport, Massachusetts. He was adopted by the Callahan family. The family consists of:

The name of the ranch is never mentioned in any of the stories. The series began in 1982, with a couple of short stories about Hank and his friends; since then, 82 printed books and seven audio-only books have been published. Hank the Cowdog was previously published via Maverick Books, with Puffin Books holding the current American publishing rights in English. Each book features songs that Erickson performs on the audiobook editions. The series has received awards and critical acclaim, and the books have sold more than eight million copies worldwide. It has been published in several languages including Spanish, Danish, Persian, and Chinese. In the 1980s, the first book was adapted into an animated segment for CBS Storybreak.
Victor Ambrus was a Hungarian-born British illustrator of history, folk tales, and animal story books. He also became known from his appearances on the Channel 4 television archaeology series Time Team, on which he visualised how sites under excavation may have once looked. Ambrus was an Associate of the Royal College of Art and a Fellow of both the Royal Society of Arts and the Royal Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers.
